September 8 780 in Leo IV the Khazar the Byzantine emperor from 775 to 780 AD died of a violent fever, due to his tuberculosis,. He was succeeded by his underage son Constantine VI, The only child of Emperor Leo IV, Constantine had been named co-emperor with him at the age of five in 776 and succeeded him as sole Emperor in 780, aged nine. His mother Irene exercised control over him as regent until 790, assisted by her chief minister Staurakios. The regency ended when Constantine reached maturity, but Irene sought to remain an active participant in the government. After a brief interval of sole rule Constantine named his mother empress in 792, making her his official colleague.

September 8, 1565, In with much pomp and circumstance and 600 voyagers cheering, Don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés set foot on the shores of Florida. In honor of the saint whose feast day fell on the day he first sighted land, Menéndez named the colonial settlement St. Augustine. Forty-two years before the English colonized Jamestown and fifty-five years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, the Spanish established at St. Augustine this nation's first enduring settlement Menéndez quickly and diligently carried out his king's instructions. With brilliant military maneuvering and good fortune, he removed the French garrison and proceeded to consolidate Spain's authority on the northeast coast of Florida. St. Augustine was to serve two purposes: as a military outpost, or Presidio, for the defense of Florida, and a base for Catholic missionary settlements throughout the southeastern part of North America.

September 8, 2022 in the Elizabeth II Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms. Queen regnant of 32 sovereign states over the course of her lifetime died peacefully at 15:10 BST at the age of 96, with two of her children, Charles and Anne, by her side;
Charles immediately succeeded as monarch. Her death was announced to the public at 18:30,setting in motion Operation London Bridge and, because she died in Scotland, Operation Unicorn. Elizabeth was the first monarch to die in Scotland since James V in 1542. Her death certificate recorded her cause of death as "old age"

September 7 = National Threatened Species Day
On September 7 we try to raise awareness of plants and animals at risk of extinction in Australia. Australia is home to more than 500,000 animal and plant species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. On September 7th each year, many people stop and reflecton the fact that on that same date in 1936, Australia’s Tasmanian tiger, also known as the thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus), slipped over the extinction line. 60 years later in 1996, the Threatened Species Network founded by WWF-Australia and the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust established National Threatened Species Day to commemorate the death of the last Tasmanian tiger at Hobart Zoo.

September 7 1863 to September 9 1863 Battle of Cumberland Gap
September 7–9, 1863 in in the fall of the Cumberland Gap was a victory for Union forces under the command of Ambrose Burnside during his campaign for Knoxville. The bloodless engagement cost the Confederates 2,300 men captured and control of the Cumberland Gap.
