A question we get asked over and over again is: what is a warm neutral paint?

Warm neutrals are those soft, livable shades that have beige, cream, taupe, or warm gray undertones rather than feeling stark, icy, or flat. They create a beautiful backdrop, work well with natural materials, and give a home that collected, comfortable feeling we love.

These are some of our tried-and-true favorites at HLL—colors we reach for again and again because they layer so well with wood tones, stone, brass, textiles, and warm lighting.

And as always, sample first. The same paint color can look completely different depending on the light, flooring, and finishes in your home.

This space was already beautiful—we just gave it the finish it deserved. Grasscloth on the ceiling added that last layer of texture, warmth, and quiet luxury that makes the whole space feel complete.

Sometimes the best design move isn’t changing everything. It’s knowing exactly what’s missing.
