Most homeowners never get on their roof after a storm. Most adjusters spend less than 15 minutes up there. That’s not an inspection — that’s a denial waiting to happen.

Here are the 3 spots we check on every single roof that tell the whole story:

1. THE RIDGE CAP ⬆️
This is the highest point of your roof and the first thing hail hits on the way down. It takes direct impact every single storm. Cracked, bruised or displaced ridge caps are one of the strongest indicators of hail damage — and one of the first things a rushed adjuster skips. If your ridge cap is compromised, the rest of your roof took a hit too.

2. THE SOFT METALS 🔩
Your gutters. Your flashing. Your pipe boots. Your AC condenser. These metals are your roof’s black box. Hail leaves perfect circular dents on soft metal surfaces that cannot be faked, cannot be argued as wear and tear, and cannot be ignored in an appeal. If we find dented metal — your claim just got a lot stronger.

3. THE SHINGLE FIELD 🔍
Not the edges. Not the peaks. The middle of your shingle field is where adjusters walk fast and document light. This is where impact bruising lives — soft spots underneath the granule surface that you can only find by pressing your hand against the shingle. No bruising visible from the ground. No bruising visible from a 10 minute walk. Only found by someone who knows exactly what they’re feeling for.

Here’s the truth most people never hear:

A denied claim doesn’t mean there’s no damage. It means nobody found the right evidence in the right places.

I genuinely wish someone had told me this before I filed my roof insurance claim… because it would’ve saved me a LOT of stress, confusion, and money.

Most homeowners think:
“No leak = no damage.”

That is NOT true.

A roof can have serious hail damage long before water ever starts coming inside your house. And by the time you notice leaks, staining, or interior damage… the situation is usually much worse.

Here are 3 things I learned the hard way after dealing with roof storm damage + insurance:

1️⃣ You do NOT need an active leak to qualify for a roof replacement.
This is probably the biggest misconception homeowners have. Hail damage weakens shingles over time, and insurance companies often look for storm-related damage BEFORE leaks happen.

2️⃣ Hail damage can be directional.
One slope of your roof can be heavily damaged while the other side looks completely normal. That’s why quick inspections or “ground checks” miss damage all the time.

3️⃣ Waiting too long after a storm can hurt your claim.
The longer you wait, the easier it becomes for insurance companies to argue the damage came from age, wear and tear, poor maintenance, or previous issues instead of the actual storm.

And honestly? Most homeowners have no clue this is happening until it’s too late.

I’m posting this because I don’t want people making the same mistakes I did.
