Did You Know? This day way back in August 24, 79 AD Mt Vesuvius blew up.
Marble window coverings were one of the oldest to be discovered and were found in the obliterated city of Pompeii, constructed out of marble with slats to divert the sunlight and create coolness. These slats also served the purpose of providing some amount of privacy and protection from inclement weather. The marble slats are believed to have been replaced by wood in later years.

Did you know? August 21st On this day in 1841 John Hampson was awarded United States Patent No. 2,223 for a 'manner of retaining in any desired position the slats of Venetian Blinds.' This adjustment design is still the most employed method in stringing Venetian blinds in use today.
