Another project complete. This is a very unique table. Simplistic yet genius. The maker is Jens Risom Designs. Research shows Jens was a Danish furniture maker. Based on the hardware used, my guess is this was made in the 50s or 60s.

I love making new tables, but there's joy found in refinishing old ones as well. Especially, when these are handed down, which is the case on this piece.

Happy Fall Y'All!! Well, almost Fall. Not to early to be thinking about those Holiday gifts. Getting ready for several days of posts coming to you. Today's is of a couple of nice bowls.

Antique Dining Table Restoration:

Near as I can tell, this table is roughly 120 years old and came to me with a length of 10'3".

The customer requested a few things; strip to bare wood and refinish, fix the sliding mechanism to extend the table and add another leaf (actually she wanted two more, but I didn't have enough good quality Walnut for both).

We'll start here with finish product pics then pics of the project along the way. Enjoy

I unfortunately did not get a before pic, and limited on in-progress pics.

Five coats of stripping were needed to get to bare wood, Black Walnut. The original sliding mechanism was shot, so remade one from scratch, using heavy-duty drawer sliders recessed into each slider piece (made of Red Oak).

New leaf using material I had on hand. An absolute TON of sanding. Added latched to each joint. Then, finally, Rubio Monocoat for the color stain finish. Second coat was Rubio's clear for a smoother finish. That was then topped off with Blacktail Studios Nano Finish hard and top coat.

Finish length of table with new leaf is 11"3". The extention mechanism will allow the table to, with full open extention, reach 14'.

Here is another finished front door. This one was also sold by The Door Store in Bristol.

This project was fiberglass (not my favorite material to finish). There are two coats of "Old Masters Stain Gel" and three coats of their exterior Finish top coating. I thought it came out nice, and the customers are happy.

Exterior Door Finish.

The customer wanted a dark finish and supplied a picture of their preference. After some color mixing and sampling, we came up with 70% Chocolate and 30% Taupe for our mix of the Rubio MonoCoat exterior wood finish. (Yes, it says "mono"coat, but I still put on two... Shhhh).

The door was a purchase (by the customer) from The Door Store in Bristol. Solid Mahaganey. The grain is beautiful in person.

Dear Mr and Mrs Customer. When the house is finished, can I get an invite for a beer? I mean, to see the door on the house...
