What an event! My piece sold, and we had a great time discovering new artists - a couple of my favorites are included. I left with a beautifully printed catalog, monogrammed napkin, and lots of inspiration. Many thanks to the many people that organized and participated in this celebration of North Carolina art. 🥰 Raleigh Fine Arts Society NC Artists Exhibition

I'm getting ready to head to Meredith College for the Juror's Talk at 3pm then the opening reception of the from 4-6pm. You can see my piece 'Anemone' there alone with lots of work from NC artists. It's the state's largest all-media juried show in a fabulous setting - hope to see you!

Hey, look what past Alysa signed up for. Have I painted landscapes before? No. Did I binge watch 11 seasons of landscape and convince myself I could do that too? Yes. Being willing to fail is something that has gotten remarkably easier over time, though, and it's for a good cause. So I will just pretend Tai-Shan Schierenberg is there telling me he likes how I put the paint on. 😂🥳🤷‍♀️

I'm so excited to be part of Artspace's FRESH exhibition. If you see my piece there, snap a picture for me - I'm out of town and haven't seen it yet. While there you can vote for the People's Choice award, and all art is available to purchase. There is work by more than 300 NC artists - enjoy! ✨

Being alone and in my feelings, I thought today would be an excellent day to print this series I've been brewing, processing this new phase of existence where my daughters have become their own people (turning 14 and 16 soon somehow) with their own memories of childhood, and how visceral but ephemeral raising small creatures is and how we don't have control over anything ultimately. Ya know. I printed the negatives, did a test print for the exposure on this new paper, placed them in the sun, rinsed, everything was good... and after a couple hours I watched as all the images slowly faded out of existence.

I'M GOOD. IT'S FINE.

I have been left to my own devices, which means I have a dozen projects spread out all over and I'm eating a lot of cheese. Can anyone guess what is happening here?

'Backyard Lights I and II'. Like I showed in my reel yesterday, once the lumen print is exposed you can dip it in darkroom fixer. This often shifts the hues and tones. It makes the print more lightfast, but I don't offer any originals because it's not completely UV safe and the paper has been through quite a process and doesn't always hold up perfectly. I might try encasing these prints in encaustic wax - preserving something inherently ephemeral is bittersweet and always makes me feel nostalgic.

This piece was printed on expired Hahnemuhle photo rag paper, which is shimmery and gorgeous and I love it but alas it is all gone.
