I donāt think I realized how deep I was in survival mode until I stopped caring about my hair. And if you know me, thatās saying a lot.
As a former hairstylist, my hair has always been a huge part of who I was. Iāve been coloring it and changing it up since I was a teenager so the fact that I went over a year without touching the color or cutting it shouldāve been a pretty big clue.
After having three babies in three years, it just became one more thing I didnāt have the energy for.
And then there was the hair itself š³
Iāve always had fine hair but Iāve also A LOT of it. It may not look like a lot but trust me, itās deceiving. And before anyone comes for me⦠yes, I know a lot of people would gladly take that problem š«£ But after each pregnancy, instead of postpartum hair loss, mine just kept getting thicker. It got to the point where there was just too much of it. It was heavy, it was overstimulating and throwing it into a bun every day didnāt feel like a choice anymore. I had to.
Obviously, Iām still a mom of 3 little kids so Iām still going to throw my hair into a bun most days. The difference is that now it just feels so much more manageable. When I want to wear it down, it actually feels like an option again. It doesnāt feel so heavy or so overstimulating anymore and that was really the whole point.
I think thatās what Iāve been realizing lately. Getting myself back hasnāt been one big moment. Itās really just been all the little things that have slowly started adding up.
So thank you, Alessandra, for doing what you do best. Iām especially thankful for the one hour escape from the chaos and the much needed giggle sesh š
