Fall is here in Boulder, and as temperatures drop and indoor heating kicks in, the air inside our homes can become drier.

Hardwood naturally responds to changes in humidity. As wood loses moisture, it can shrink slightly, making gaps between floorboards more noticeable.

But does every gap mean thereโ€™s a problem? Not necessarily.

Some gaps are simply part of seasonal wood movement. Others may be related to installation, moisture conditions, or movement in the flooring.

Keep indoor humidity as consistent as possible, within your flooring manufacturerโ€™s recommended range.
Watch for gaps that continue to widen or remain open year-round.
โ€ข Donโ€™t rush to fill a gap without understanding whatโ€™s causing it.

Itโ€™s called a flooring transition, where two different flooring surfaces meet. Getting it right takes careful measuring, cutting, and fitting.

Not the part everyone notices, but definitely one worth getting right. ๐Ÿ˜‰
