There are two Genevas in New York, right next to each other: the Town of Geneva and the City of Geneva. They border each other, used to be the same place, but are now distinct municipalities that still share a name.

We spent some time exploring Cornell's beautiful campus. The Ivy League institution was founded in 1865 (over 20 years before Ithaca was incorporated). It was founded by Ezra Cornell, who provided his Ithaca farm land for the school's initial campus, and Andrew Dickson White, who was the University's first president.

Some photos from our time in Ithaca, NY. Founded in 1790, incorporated in 1888. Ithaca was once part of "The Town of Ulysses," but eventually became its own, separate city, adopting the name of the Greek island Ithaca, home of the ancient Greek hero Odysseus (also called Ulysses) from Homer's The Odyssey.

Ithaca and Ulysses are not the only towns in New York named after ancient, classical literature: if you look on a map of the state, you'll also find Aurelius, Ovid, and Troy.
