Correct Temperature
Surfactants are manufactured to operate effectively at a specific range of water temperatures. Our water temperature is at the specified range for our surfactant. Additionally, warm or hot water may be needed to effectively clean certain areas. Our water heater is an energy-efficient “on-demand” which will meet any requirements for heated water we may need.

Also, the drying process must take place at the proper temperature to prevent damage if the drying process takes too long. We have had our dry room, which is sealed and insulated, built, and engineered by a professional. It has natural gas heat, temperature, and humidity controls. In addition, after the rugs are completely wet washed and rinsed they pass through rubber-coated squeeze rollers which render them just damp so as to assist the drying process. The dry room is really effective at achieving ultimate proper drying.

Chemical Action: Emulsifying soil and Rinsing it away.

It is critical that the surfactant ( surface active agent )used must be compatible with the wool or silk that the rug is woven with and the dyes that the colors are obtained from. This will prevent various types of damage including but not exclusively limited to color bleeding.
We have for some decades now purchased our Surfactant from the same company whose owner has a University Degree in Textile Science who designed and manufactures his product.
Our results experience using this product for these decades has been a safe, thorough and beneficial cleaning.

The removal of stains of all types may require additional chemical action utilizing various other agents.

Soil removal before washing
Mechanical Action: Is the action necessary to remove the various types of soil found. This will vary according to the thickness of the pile and the condition of each rug. Here at Grillo Oriental, we have two types of Professional rug dusting machinery that can successfully remove soil.
One is Our Exclusive Star wheel Duster ( we know of no other in New England ). which we use on the thick and heavy rugs. It is far more effective than the other Rug Duster Machine that we have which is excellent for rugs that may have a thinner pile or be more fragile.
Mechanical Action can also refer to Scrubbing used to remove Atmospheric soil. Once again all this must be balanced on the age and condition of each rug. Fine, Antique or otherwise fragile rugs will only be Hand Scrubbed with a fine horse hairbrush.

What Makes A Rug Dirty?

Types of soil found in Oriental rugs:
“Direct Contact Soil “ which is largely sand and clay. They are tracked in on people's footwear. Their nature is abrasive and cut at the fibers of the rug wearing away at them to reduce the rug's life.

“Atmospheric Soils” They are found floating in the air. These light, greasy soils come from sources such as heating systems, stoves and air conditioners. They can combine with other soil particles and adhere to the scales that are part of a wool's structure. They form a film which dulls the brightness of the rug masking its' true colors.

“Various Stains” Food and drinks spilled on the rugs. Cats, dogs and other pets. Grease tracked into the home from outside. Even from children playing on the rug.
