I have only a FEW slots left in this one last Sectional Throwing workshop this year.

If you have been wanting to throw larger work, join me November 11–15 at my studio in Brattleboro, Vermont.  Over five days five days of making, practicing and problem-solving we will push scale and form further than you thought possible.

We’ll work side by side in the studio — refining sectional throwing techniques, exploring proportion and movement, and learning how to create pots with strength, presence, and poetry.

Whether you’re ready to scale up or deepen your understanding of form, this workshop is designed to move your work forward in a meaningful way.

Comment “Monumental” if you want to be part of the class.

On Perception

The experience of a large vessel is more than visual. Scale has a way of bypassing the intellect and speaking directly to the body — to the gut, the breath, the nervous system. Often, what moves us most is not how the form appears to the eye, but how it awakens a quiet resonance within us.

Grand Gesture: Monumental Vessels in the Garden is now on view at the Berkshire Botanical Garden is West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Eight of my ceramic vessels are placed among the blooms, pathways, and landscapes of the Garden.Exhibition hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily through October.

One of the greatest joys of exhibiting outdoors is watching the work slowly become part of its surroundings: rain giving the surfaces a shine, shadows dancing across the forms, and moss and time softening the boundary between sculpture and nature.

I hope you are able to come spend some time with the work, the Garden, and the quiet conversations that happen between them.

Meet the artist behind the monumental vessels...

Before clay, I was a classical guitarist — but the underlying quest has always remained the same: giving shape to what cannot quite be seen.

Where music employed tone, arc, and melody, my sculptures now speak through volume, curve, and scale. I’ve always been drawn to forms that emanate a quiet, nearly animate presence — works that invite stillness, reflection, and offer a place to be.

Some things really do come across better in person—scale, weight, and the way a surface holds light.

This footage is from a previous Paradise City Arts Festival.

I’ll be back this May 23–25 with a new group of large ceramic vessels. The focus is still on form, proportion, and how each piece redefines the space it lives in.

Stop by and take a look!

Function isn’t limited to use.

An object that elates, that holds your attention—
serves in its own way.

That is function enough.

At last this amazing piece has found its home! This installation was gratifying on many levels:

The clients are friends, he is a retired ceramic artist whose work I greatly admire, the setting is dramatic, and once the gardens surrounding it are put in and grow, it will be absolutely spectacular.

Often when I place a piece, I hear people say, "It looks like it has always been here!” in this case I heard: “It makes the house look smaller!” 😅✨️
