Historic home in Park Slope - Part 1

When very challenge project you collaborated on appeared in Architectural Digest, with the quotations in the article were like these:

“Our architectural ambition had to match her commitment to art,”

“To do so they created a sculptural but functional staircase, with fluid curves that shift to reveal a skylight only upon ascent.”

“Framed by an archway, it now pops against magenta walls—a hue echoed in the Tracey Emin neon piece at the base of the staircase.”

“The screening room, where Dennis regularly retreats to watch films for work, is especially bold, its ceiling slicked in high-gloss blue, complementing the geometric carpet.”

You'll be proud of the result.

Thanks to for the opportunity.

High End Duplex Apartment on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

This staircase was originally built with curved Mahogany panels on the walls, reaching 15 feet high as well as the handrail side with solid Mahogany.

Client decided to cover the mahogany wood 🤯 with a high gloss finish. But the finish could not have roller texture or brush marks.

In this finish, the walls are shiner than a brand new car, without any brush marks or dirt on the surface (Look the reflection of the steps on the walls).

In the end, it was more beautiful than the Mahogany finish.

There is a balance between texture, shine and organic movement that makes the difference between a plaster that looks synthetic and a plaster that has the refinement and good taste of plaster from ancient times.

In this project we used a lime-based plaster from Italy, where we removed the coarser aggregates to obtain a smooth finish with some more polished areas. The polishing is only visible when you look at the wall from the side.

Once the plaster has dried and cured, it returns to the original state, back to be stone.
