La Casa Bronxville is situated at the base of the old Gramatan Hotel. Built in 1905 by real estate developer William Van Duzer Lawrence. The Gramatan was the epitome of elegance and high style. It was one of the country’s most exclusive hotels until the Great Depression in the 1930’s. This greeting card was commissioned from a painting, by Hughson Hawks, for the hotel’s grand opening Easter Sunday 1905. In 1972 most of the building was torn down and later replaced by townhouses. Only the arcade on the ground level and elevator tower survived. Our vision in designing La Casa Restaurant was to create an elegant and inviting dining experience. We utilized mirrors throughout the space that were exclusively made for us from copper 19th Century New York City reclaimed storm gutters. The 30 foot peacock blue banquette was custom made in the space. When you visit, notice there are no seams for maximum comfort. The wall sconces were designed by and their reactive ceramic color balances the light throughout the space. The ceiling pendant light fixtures are inspired by Charleston marshgrass baskets. We used Peacock Blue ceramic tiles, brass fixtures and amber lighting for a chic and sophisticated feel at the bar. The menu and cocktails are elevated farm to table seasonal ingredients.
