So crazy story, there was a fire at my kids school this morning. All the kids are safe thank god. But they had to be dismissed from school, which caused its own sort of chaos. And now they’re back at home, pleased as punch with the turn of events. I’ve clearly gotten nothing done except track their location all morning (thanks air tags!). So here’s a cute double kids room we did which is clearly free of kid chaos.

Character is more important than perfection. Not that we don’t work hard to create the most beautiful and functional space, but something is lost when you focus on every little detail and every nick. You miss the whole. You miss the character. You miss that life will be lived in that space. And sometimes the most interesting pieces and spaces come from that imperfection.

When the art is the thing that pulls everything together.

Sometimes our clients bring their own amazing artwork to a project, sometimes we get to work with amazing artists to create something new and sometimes we source pieces online and in galleries. I’m not precious about art - it’s more important that you get something on the wall and even better if it’s meaningful or makes you smile. It doesn’t have to cost a lot. It just needs to be personal and loved.

But a wall without a bit of art is a sad wall. Nothing makes a home feel more cozy and complete than getting art on the wall.

It has been a whirlwind of photoshoot after photoshoot these last few weeks and we’re so excited to share new projects with you. We have some really great ones coming up. But as exciting and rewarding as they are, they’re also a massive amount of work, prep and coordination. Quite frankly Im exhausted. So I’m reposting Petra Design’s office here. And while it’s never actually this clean (think multiple projects strewn about on every horizontal surface), this is what we strive for.
