Fire Island From Above

Fire Island From Above Fine art photographer Troy House presents his fine art photography from Fire Island, New York

Kismet earned its name honestly. It means fate, destiny, the thing that was always going to happen. This little stretch of Fire Island showed up on maps in the early 1900s as one of the first communities to take root along the barrier beach, a place where people came because something pulled them there.

This photograph was taken from a helicopter, low and slow over the water, the way you actually see a place when you stop standing in it. Four sizes, three frame options. Ships to your home or straight to the Fire Island freight ferry. Printing, framing, delivery, all of it included.

Three weeks and it's on your wall. That's really all there is to it.

This is one of my favorite frames in the entire Fire Island from Above collection, shot from a helicopter on a day when the whole human race decided to show up at once. There is so much happening in this single image that you could pull twenty different photographs out of it and not one of them would be boring. A beach full of ambition.People scattered across the sand with nowhere to be.
That is Fire Island in one frame. Some parts of it ask nothing of you, just silence and marsh grass and the sound of the water. And then there is Robert Moses, which asks everything, all at once, without apology.
Robert Moses State Park sits at the western end of Fire Island, the only stretch of this barrier island you can reach by car. Named for the man who built everything and answered to no one, it opened in 1908 and was remade in the 1950s into the front door of a place that never quite wanted one.
Every print comes framed, delivered to your home or directly to the Fire Island ferry, and all photography is captured by the artist from a helicopter.

Atlantique from above looks calm, almost polite. But if you have ever spent a summer on Fire Island, you know better.

This thin stretch of sand has always been a little rebellious. No cars. No highways. Just boardwalks, beach grass, and the Atlantic doing whatever it wants. For decades it has been a refuge for artists, writers, families, and the beautifully unconventional. A place close enough to New York to hear its hum, but far enough away to forget it.

Atlantique sits quietly between Ocean Beach and the wide open stretches that lead toward the Pines. It is smaller, residential, a bit more tucked in. The kind of place where mornings start with coffee on a deck and end with sandy feet and sunburned shoulders. It feels undiscovered, even though it has been loved for generations.

From the helicopter, the geometry reveals itself. The soft disorder of dunes. The line where bay meets ocean. What feels casual at ground level becomes graphic and almost meditative from the air. It is the island stripped down to form and light.

This image is part of my Fire Island From Above series, a long running study of this narrow, stubborn, beautiful sandbar and the communities that cling to it season after season.

Framed prints are available with free shipping. They feel right at home in your Fire Island house, and maybe even better in your off season home when you need a reminder of salt air and long boardwalk walks.

That time of year again. The light is changing, the air is softening, and our minds start drifting east. We’re thinking about opening the house, beach walks at dusk, friends around the table, and all the little ways we refresh our spaces for summer.

If you’re looking for the easiest way to update the look of your home while supporting a local Fire Island artist, this is it.

The image below is from Cherry Grove, one of the most storied communities on the island. Since the 1940s it has been known as a haven for artists, creatives, and the LGBTQ+ community, a place built on freedom, expression, and a anything goes beach spirit that still defines it today. What started as a quiet fishing area evolved into one of the most vibrant and culturally important enclaves on the East Coast, where boardwalks replaced roads and individuality was always part of the landscape.

Every photograph in the Fire Island From Above collection is hand printed, and pricing includes framing and shipping. Each piece is captured the old school way, shot with cameras from helicopters, never drones, giving the work its signature perspective and depth.

A little piece of the island, ready to hang before the season even begins.

Dear God, will winter ever end?

Sitting here in the studio in Brooklyn, staring out the window, daydreaming about a slow walk on the beach, salt in the air, grill heating up, something cold in my hand. Instead it is mountains of snow and that brutal, bone deep cold that makes you question your life choices.

But if you are anything like me, your mind is already drifting east. Thinking about opening the house. What needs fixing. What gets upgraded. What gets added to make it feel new again for spring.

Here is a chance to support a Fire Island artist with real Fire Island art. Every image was shot from a helicopter, doors off, chasing that light and those colors that only exist out there.

They look right at home in a beach house. Not bad in the city either when you need a mental escape during the long stretch of winter.

Fair Harbor, Fire Island—captured from above!

Nestled on the western end of Fire Island, Fair Harbor has long been a beloved summer escape. Once a small fishing community, it evolved into a vibrant yet laid-back beach town known for its tight-knit feel, bike-lined boardwalks, and breathtaking sunsets. With no cars and only sandy paths, Fair Harbor is a true getaway from the everyday hustle.

This aerial view, shot over Fourth of July weekend, is part of my Fire Island From Above collection. Available in multiple sizes and frame colors, each piece is framed and shipped directly to Fire Island or your off-season home.
