From 1856 to the Colorado High Country: This home began as a lifelong dream—and an 1856 log cabin with real history. When the original builder relationship stalled, Bunn & Sons stepped in midstream to deliver a finished home worthy of the vision. The original Kentucky double-pen dogtrot cabin was deconstructed, restored, shipped, and rebuilt in Colorado, then thoughtfully integrated into a larger custom structure to support modern, full-time living. Inside, reclaimed barnwood, antique pieces, and hand-hewn old-growth logs meet high-performance comfort: heated floors, fireplaces, solar roof, and a fire suppression system—all on a 1.3-acre canyon lot at 9,500 ft with dramatic Continental Divide views.

This project was 100% unique and a lot of fun. We are grateful to have played a part in it!

Sometimes the best part of a project comes after the work is done.

We love to buy some kind of thank you gift for all our clients.

So around Christmas, we brought FRIENDS of Broomfield some gifts to help bring the new areas to life—think karaoke microphone, Roku projector, popcorn machine… honestly, it sounds like a place we should all be hanging out. :)

We are finally getting around to sharing this moment—and it's a lot of fun.

We are grateful to be a small part of what FRIENDS is building.

Not every project is about building something new—sometimes it’s about creating more room for impact.

This one was a little different for us.

We don’t typically take on commercial work, but when a past client reached out—this time as the CEO of an incredible nonprofit—we knew it was something we wanted to be part of.

FRIENDS of Broomfield () has been serving adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in the Broomfield community since 1998. As their programs grew, so did their need for space.

Their existing building, constructed in 2013, simply couldn’t keep up.

So we got to work.

In just 3 months, we helped transform underutilized basement space into vibrant program areas—designed for connection, activity, and fun:
• Arcade
• Karaoke lounge
• Dance studio
• Gathering spaces

At the same time, we built out new office spaces upstairs to support their growing team and give department leaders a more functional place to work.

Commercial projects come with a different level of complexity—codes, occupancy requirements, coordination with the city—but we worked closely with the architects, trade partners, and permitting officials to deliver a solution that was both cost-effective and fully compliant.

Most importantly, this project allows FRIENDS to serve more people.
More space means more programs.
More programs mean more opportunity.
Proud to play a small part in the work they’re doing in the community.

I wanted to take a minute to walk through this cabin project because we’re officially in that phase where everything starts coming together — and it’s a pretty incredible thing to see. 🪵

We’re nearing the finish line now. The exterior is wrapped up, the site work is nearly complete, and inside the home feels alive. Floors are exposed, systems are running, and you can finally experience the space the way it was intended to be lived in.

What makes this project special isn’t just the progress — it’s the balance. Old and new working together. Hickory floors, barn wood, antique pieces, modern systems, and thoughtful finishes all living in the same space without competing with each other.

One of my favorite details in this home is the use of old to***co barn drying sticks, repurposed as balusters throughout the railings. That kind of craftsmanship doesn’t happen by accident — it takes patience, creativity, and a team that truly cares about the outcome.

I also want to take a moment to recognize the people behind the work. Mountain Mouse Carpentry knocked it out of the park with the barn wood throughout the home — every piece custom fit, every detail intentional. And to our entire team: what you’ve accomplished here is hard to put into words. I’m incredibly proud of the care and skill that went into this build.

This project is coming in for a landing, and it’s been a privilege to be part of something so unique. I’ll be back soon with more updates as we head toward the final reveal. ✨

Ode to Shiplap - Home Remodel🪚✨

Bethany and Mike are about the sweetest, most joy-filled couple you’ll ever meet. Newly married and stepping into their first home, they wanted a space that felt warm, welcoming, and truly theirs. With this whole-house remodel in Lafayette, we set out to bring their vision to life — and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

From a fully renovated kitchen and master bath to a refreshed fireplace wrapped in clean, modern shiplap, every update was designed to make this home as functional as it is beautiful. Add in an upgraded laundry room, refinished main-floor hardwoods, fresh carpet upstairs, and several small cosmetic improvements, and this 2019 Lafayette project became something really special.
