Fall is in the air. 🍂

The afternoons may still feel like summer, but those crisp mornings and cool evenings are a lovely reminder that a new season is settling in.

There’s something about this time of year that makes home feel even more inviting. Beautiful layers, softer lighting, and the simple luxury of slowing down to enjoy the spaces we call home.

(More than) 8,000 of you. And we are humbled. 🤍

Somewhere between our beautiful projects, carefully curated materials, and endless task lists, we looked up and realized there are now over 8,000 of you in our little world.

And we just want to say thank you.

Our days are filled with the things we love most.

Tailored details. Thoughtful spatial planning. Designing your forever home, or your home for now.

Creating soul-filled commercial spaces for extraordinary humans building businesses of their own.

Dreaming up beautiful kitchens where morning coffee feels like a luxury, Sunday dinners become traditions, and fabulous dinner parties end with everyone gathered around the island.

And sometimes, the greatest compliment of all: welcoming back a client two years later for round two. Revisiting those beautiful spaces that had to wait their turn.

Because nobody can do everything at once. Well, almost nobody. 😉

We believe the spaces we inhabit deserve the same consideration as the lives we build within them.

Did you know that research suggests our bodies respond differently to natural materials than to synthetic environments? Some studies have even found differences in heart rate and physiological stress responses.

Our surroundings affect us in ways we may not even realize. 🌿

Can we take a moment to appreciate this gorgeous English cast-iron bathtub, surrounded by the most delicious, warm peach marble?

**Peach tones are incredibly flattering to the skin**, reflecting a beautiful warmth. And if there’s anywhere we deserve to feel beautiful, it’s in the room where we’re at our most vulnerable. ♥️

Now, a little story from the life of an interior designer...

I recently designed a similar stone bathtub surround for a client, complete with an access panel for future maintenance.

When the contractor came to review my drawings, he took one look and said:

**”They’re beautiful. It can’t be done.”**

He then suggested replacing the stone with wood because that’s what he preferred to install.

There’s a longstanding joke in construction that designers dream up beautiful things that can’t actually be built.

And sure, sometimes we push the boundaries.

But I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had someone mansplain why my **whimsical little drawings are architectural fairy tales**, only to discover that what I’ve designed has already been done. Beautifully.

**Sometimes “it can’t be done” really means “I don’t know how to do it” or “I don’t want to do it.”**

Which usually tells me I’m talking to the wrong tradesperson.

The magic happens when designers and skilled craftspeople collaborate to figure out HOW, rather than immediately deciding something can’t be done.

And that’s why details like this matter.

Because beautiful design isn’t just about how a space looks.

**It’s about how it makes you feel.** ♥️

The design process takes the time it needs.

For something to feel special, original, and truly deserving of the people who will live with it, there is an investment required—not only financially, but in thought, exploration, development, and time.

Some projects reveal themselves almost immediately. We see the answer, and we know exactly where we’re going.

Others ask us to search a little longer. To sketch. To study. To discard the first idea—or the fifth. To find the inspiration that makes the entire concept finally click.

The technical process can be expedited. Drawings can be produced faster. Decisions can be organized. Deadlines can be managed.

But creativity cannot be rushed.

One of my mentors once told me: You can have it fast. You can have it beautiful. Or you can have it affordable. But you cannot have all three. For my home, ofcourse it’s no exception.

Exceptional design is a labor of love. And sometimes the most important part of the process is giving an idea enough time to become the one worth building.

Ten years ago today, I lost my mom.

Long before Vanessa Empire Interiors existed, she was teaching me how to see.

She taught me that it isn’t silly to fuss over the details. That the smallest things matter. That 1/16” of an inch is, in fact, a threshold worth noticing. That proportion matters. Placement matters. The way something lines up matters. And when something feels just slightly off, there is usually a reason.

She taught me to look again.

To care about the things most people might never consciously notice—because those are often the very things that make a room feel right.

I didn’t know then that I was learning how to be a designer. I just knew that my mom noticed everything, and she taught me to notice it too.

Ten years later, that attention to detail is woven into everything we do at Vanessa Empire Interiors.

Every drawing I scrutinize. Every alignment I question. Every finish transition I obsess over. Every 1/16” that someone assures me “no one will ever notice.”

I notice.

Because she taught me to.

I wish she could see what all of those little lessons became.

My own kitchen was the ultimate design project.

Because how do you design for yourself? And maybe even harder—how do you capture yourselves as a couple?

Two personalities. Two perspectives. The things we’re drawn to individually, the things we love together—and all the blind spots that are almost impossible to see when you’re standing inside your own story.

That’s what I believe interior design really is.

It’s digging for the beauty, the cool, the edgy, the softness, the unexpected—the things that exist somewhere in the essence of the people who will live there—and pulling them forward into a home that feels unmistakably theirs.

Not just, What do you like?

But—

Who are you together?
How far can we push it?
What’s the limit?
And what happens if we go just a little further?

Today’s job-site visit: kitchen elevations, finishes, materials, and all the details that are beginning to turn drawings into something real.

This is the part I love. Creating something so personal that, in the end, it couldn’t belong to anyone else.

Weekend work, but I’m loving what’s being created.

We’re finalizing the space planning for a custom home project, and it’s one we absolutely cannot wait to tell you about. Period.

There are so many exciting things happening behind the scenes at Vanessa Empire Interiors right now—new construction, luxury interior design, and beautiful new homes taking shape for truly some of the best clients I could ever ask for.

I especially love working with entrepreneurs. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about designing a home for people who have poured so much passion into building their businesses and their lives—and then getting to create a backdrop for that life that gives them everything on their list, and sometimes things they didn’t even know to ask for.

This Colorado fall is shaping up to be a very busy one, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Long weekends included, I’m incredibly lucky to have found what I’m meant to do. There is so much beautiful work in the making.
