One of the stops on the drive from the lovely to Duffus Estate (on our 21st anniversary 💕 Joe Kujawa) was Stirling Castle. The sky changed from moody gray to bright blue throughout the morning, but glad we got to the Castle early because it was still peak tourist season, apparently! Beautiful views from the Castle walls across the countryside. The were still blooming in early October, and gorgeous

Glasgow 😍 I had this CRM quote hanging over my drafting table in architecture school, so there is no question what my top agenda item was on this trip 😄 From his statue in Finnieston (sculpted by Andy Scott who created ) to the at on the University of Glasgow campus; a glimpse of the now-closed , and a short train ride to see . Margaret's gesso panel and an original FLW Martin House window at the Hunterian Gallery were so beautiful. It wasn't all Mackintosh, of course! We strolled through the West End, and up and down Argyle, Buchanan, and Sauchiehall Streets. A last-minute tour of the Tennent's L***r Brewery on our last day, followed by a fantastic dinner at the lovely@cafegandolfi. The Tearooms and School of Art need a whole other post! Could have used a couple more days to see more Mackintosh buildings 😉. Next trip ❤️

Today, AIA Buffalo/WNY is hosting an interesting panel discussion at the Downtown Library called "Revitalizing Main Street". Featuring the perspectives of developers, planners, architects, and other local experts, the panel is talking about the of revitalizing . Making better use of long-vacant buildings such as AM&A's can help to bring more residents into the downtown core, but - as we're learning - it's a multi-faceted problem.

I made it to Ginger Twist Studio Yarn & Fabric Shop in Edinburgh yesterday, and did not leave empty-handed 😂 The hand dyed yarns are gorgeous and the staff was so helpful. Now I have two new projects to get started when I get back home, in my spare time 🤣

There were so many highlights of our trip to , but seeing as much of 's work as possible was my main reason for going. CRM was the first and most important influence on my own architectural career. I tried to get a work term job in Glasgow when I was a student, and again sometime around 1999/2000. I probably still have the rejection letters 😄 First stop was the in Helensburgh, designed for the Blackie family and completed in 1904. After years of seeing it in books, there is nothing like walking into a room and seeing it in person. There was so much to take in - the colours, stained glass, light fixtures, and of course the furniture. 's gesso panels were just stunning. There is a fascinating story unfolding as well - look up the Hill House box to learn more.

Our travel day from Duffus Estate took us down the shore of into , and a night at the lovely Bridge of Orchy Hotel. Before dropping off the rental car, we visited Fyne Ales (excellent 🍻) on Loch Fyne, then (which deserves its own post!), and finally for a few days. Already planning a return visit to see all the things we missed this time

Good morning from the beautiful overlooking Duffus Estate. Gorgeous sunrise this morning. We did not want to leave! Stopped at The Hermitage on the way north. Then we had a great weekend exploring (thank you, Jedidiah Strathisla Distillery!) and the . Met up with Kelly Hayes McAlonie and Brian McAlonie in Inverness for dinner after seeing the Inverness Castle Experience (WOW!!). Shout-out to the bartender Black Isle Bar Inverness whose favourite band is Buffalo's own ! There was so much that we couldn't see in just 2 days, so clearly we need to come back ❤️

First day on the road after a few wonderful days in . First stop: , which was incredible. No photos inside, but it was truly a highlight of the trip. Then to for Joe to pick up some brews at Bellhaven Brewery, and a stop at the house museum. A modern box suspended from a steel frame into the shell of his birthplace, it was really interesting architecturally. Quick stop to visit thekelpies in the rain, then finally at the Lion and Unicorn Inn near Stirling for dinner and a good night's sleep.
