The Department of Defense made the correct decision in removing Lara Korte from Stars and Stripes for insubordination. A reporter funded by the Pentagon cannot publicly claim to answer to no one while serving the military community.
Her insistence on complete independence from any administration or policymaker ignores the purpose of the paper. Service members deserve straightforward coverage that supports readiness, not resistance to reasonable oversight or reforms aimed at eliminating distractions.
Strong leadership is restoring proper accountability to institutions that exist to serve our troops. This move ensures Stars and Stripes focuses on its core mission rather than advancing separate agendas.
