**************UPDATE************
UNFORTUNATELY, at Emily's weekly appointment today, doctors did not find any improvements in baby Amelia's development. In fact, Amelia is struggling. Last week, in the Umbilical artery Doppler study, doctors found what is described as reverse end diastolic flow. This diagnosis means there is "abnormal umbilical artery flow with absent or reversed end-diastolic velocity (AREDV) during pregnancy is a strong indication of placental insufficiency. When AREDV occurs prenatally, a close follow-up or expeditious delivery should be contemplated." Today, doctors found the umbilical artery flow to have consistent reversal of flow, as seen below. This diagnosis is described as: "Reverse diastolic flow of the fetal middle cerebral artery is a rare, yet ominous finding which has been associated with adverse perinatal outcomes including: intracranial hemorrhage, growth restriction, fetal-maternal hemorrhage, severe anemia, hydrops, hepatic anomaly, subsequent stillbirth, and early neonatal death."
Baby Amelia is literally fighting against time, for her life. Emily had been admitted to the hospital for constant observation where she will stay until Amelia is born. Steroids have been administered today to hopefully assist Amelia in developing her lungs quicker in case the doctors need to remove her sooner. Emily and Mike are facing a long stay here at the hospital and are now in an even more difficult situation. Please consider donating to this couple so they can focus on Amelia and not have to worry about losing their housing, paying bills, etc.
