Nova of California NOVA is a designer and maker of innovative, purposeful, and distinctive modern lighting and homedecor. NOVA is a California story.

No one is really from California. Everyone came from somewhere else to California to pursue a dream. NOVA of California is a design and manufacturing company established in 1923 by two brothers with big dreams who moved from Brooklyn to California in the 1950’s to pursue the modernist wave. Born in Chicago, our CEO, Daniel Edelist followed his dream of California living and continues that legacy. By creating distinctive, intelligent lighting solutions, we know we can enhance our environment and the day to day experience at home and in the workplace. Collaborating with world-class designers, we bring new technologies, craft and ideas to the rapidly transforming world of lighting. With a commitment to using true materials that last—wood, cast metals, glass and ceramics—we offer timeless designs that will endure.

If your nightstand is always full, it may be time to consider what could move onto the wall. Our available Petaluma sconce combines etched bone porcelain with weathered brass, adding texture beside the bed. Plan the placement around your bed and daily routine, with installation requirements checked for the configuration you choose.

You don't need a separate music room to make listening feel like an occasion. Clear a place to sit near the record player, keep the lamp switch easy to reach and give your cup somewhere to land. A few practical choices can help the room you already have become a place you spend more time.

Have you ever changed a bulb and found that the room felt cooler even though it wasn't darker? The Kelvin rating describes the appearance of the light, while lumens describe its output. Check both when choosing an LED, and think about the activities and colors in the room where your NOVA lamp will live.

Before choosing an arc lamp, picture everyone using the sofa on a normal evening. Check where the base can stand, where the shade will sit and how people will walk through the room. Those measurements help you choose a NOVA arc that belongs with the seating you have and the way your household moves around it.

NOVA began in Brooklyn in 1923 with three brothers and an interest in making things well. More than a century later, our designs are still part of the places where people read, gather and make themselves at home.

We appreciate everyone who has given a NOVA design a place in their own story.

If your favorite room has a comfortable chair, a wooden side table and enough space to move around, you already understand some of mid-century modern's appeal.

The style grew around everyday living, with useful forms and an easy relationship between furniture and architecture. We like a room you can settle into as much as one you can admire.
