Stairs! Woohoo!

The treads and risers have all been installed for the basement staircase and they turned out beautifully! We still have the decorative trim, newel post, spindles, and railing to install, but we are definitely making progress. 😊

This Mother’s Day was not a restful day, but it was what I asked for. 😊

John has been so busy lately that he didn’t have time to take the kids to get me a present, so I asked for a work day from the family instead.

We have so many projects on our plates, but I have really been wanting to get some yard cleanup and landscaping work done. It wasn’t high priority, so I had to pull out my “Mother’s Day card” to move it up the list. Everyone pitched in (definitely not without complaint), but it’s looking so much better and ready for some plants and mulch!

I have some specific ideas in mind that I’m excited to share with you soon!

I hope all you mommas out there had the Mother’s Day you wanted! It was a beautiful day for some hard work for me!

Life is just stupid busy right now. One child has a double header in soccer this morning, another is off to a high school baseball tournament, and this one is at his first pig show of the season. Why is the house taking so long? Why are things moving so slow? This…

With John coming home late every day and working/getting called out most weekends, we are doing our best to show up for the kids and what matters to them.

You always tell yourself life will slow down, it’ll get easier, we’ll have more time once we get through this. It never really does. It just switches tracks. The summer schedule required for two boys playing multiple high school sports this year is mind blowing in itself, not even including the two little ones schedules and all the pig shows.

At some point, John and I will look back and wonder how we made it through. Then, with God’s grace, it will all begin again as our children have their own children.

This house will always have room for others. The hard work we are doing now will create a space to support whatever the future holds for these kids, as well as whatever else comes our way. ❤️

I was asked by a special customer and friend to do a floral arrangement for her kitchen table. She came into my store often and has been up to my booth weekly since it opened to see what items I have been bringing in. She fell in love with this open weave basket and the blue and green berry stems. We met at the local flower shop yesterday to find a pot to hold the arrangement in the basket and used the green leafy stems she had originally purchased from my store a few years ago. I don’t have any formal training in floral arrangements, but I enjoy working with artificial stems, because I can bend them where I want them to go. 🙃 Anyway, I thought I would just share the process. It’s just a simple arrangement to dress up her kitchen table and make her smile when she walks in the door. 😊

It’s one of those mornings…trying to get myself motivated to work. So, I thought I would throw out an update of what has been happening and what we have left to work on!

Between staining treads, stripping stairs, and taking mom to her weekly hair appointment, I popped over to reset and add new items to my Winding Road booth yesterday.

Oak Street Collectibles is having their Grand Opening celebration this Saturday from 9-5! The vendor booths are stocked full of fun finds and they now have an ice cream bar!

My kids have been not-so-patiently waiting for that ice cream bar, so it will be a fun after-school treat for them today. 😊

All the wall molding in the primary suite is up! ✅ Yay!

Yesterday, Darrell finished hanging the tv in our bedroom and then patiently waited as I talked out the size of frame to go on the wall around it. I wanted something chunky to make the tv feel more like wall art, rather than just a tv. It sticks out too far to frame the actual tv and not look awkward, so we just framed the wall behind it, instead!

As with the rest of the wall moldings, it will be painted to match the wall, so it won’t stand out quite so harshly, instead providing a lovely textured accent.

New stairs about to go in! We are starting with the set going to the basement to work out any installation kinks. Then, we will move to the main floor staircase. It’s a process! The paint has to be removed from both sets of base stairs in order for the glue to adhere properly to keep the popping to a minimum. Lots of work to do but crossing my fingers for an amazing finish!

Tackling the ugly holes in the walls (aka return air vents). We obviously have to have them if we want heating and cooling, but they are definitely frustrating to work around. Louvered vent covers are the only affordable premade option, as the decorative covers can cost anywhere between $150-$300 for this size vent. That’s ridiculous! Sooo…we made our own!
I grabbed some decorative sheet metal from Lowe’s, used the same molding we were already putting on the walls as the frame, cut everything to fit, primed it with spray paint, and covered our hole! It will be painted to match the wall to help it blend in even more. The same piece of metal will also be enough to do the other two vents in the boys’ rooms for a huge savings in vent costs. Love it!

The wall molding in the mudroom was painted over the weekend. The humidity wasn’t on our side, and Clayton had a rough go with the caulk cracking and lots of paint drips. We still have a few touchups left and the ceiling vent cover hasn’t gone up yet (or, to be more accurate, hasn’t even been purchased yet 🤦🏻‍♀️), but it’s getting close!

I’m struggling on whether to put a rug in this space. We really need one to catch the dirt and wetness coming in from the porch door, but it also creates another trip hazard for mom and her walker…also, I really don’t want to cover up the brick tiles. It’s a delimma.
