My name is Kristine Krug. I am a self-taught custom framer in rural Wisconsin. I guess you could say my passion for framing started when I was 12 years old and living in Plano, Texas. On my walk home from school I would pass a framing shop and would always peek into the window. Finally one day the owner came out and stuck a broom in my hand and I became the official floor sweeper. I just remember
the smells, wood shavings and carpenters glue. And the color...my eyes were lit up with every color of the rainbow and more. Years later I took a part time job at a "You Frame It" in Brookfield, WI. Not much learning there other than helping people piece together their frames. But, oh the aroma of the wood and glue! I later went on to becoming a fishing resort owner and operator in Northwestern Ontario. It wasn't until 2002, having just finished a degree in marketing, (you don't earn one of those for being a jack of all trades) that my Mother stumbled across a tiny add stating that a Ben Franklin was closing in Superior, just north of here, and it's equipment was for sale. A month later, with the help of my parents and friends, I opened my own shop in Rice Lake. Now here is where it gets interesting. I never stopped to consider that there was a lot more to framing than just helping people put their little frames together in a small booth. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know how to write up an order with all the dimensions! Suffice it to say, everyone was so patient and I had a very steep learning curve. Loving what I do made learning a breeze. I now have a very large customer base that extends across several states and I humbly call them my dear friends. It is sometimes hard to tell when entering into my shop if its a framing day or a counseling day. Nonetheless, I have a very cozy and comfortable spot for people to come for framing, friendship and sharing. I hope you enjoy seeing the pictures and I will be adding on more as time goes. I didn't start taking pictures until the last couple years. This is a good time to start! I would love to hear your comments.
