Sometimes a piece just takes my breath away, and this antique folk art-style oil portrait from 1869 was no exception.

I waited eight hours at an auction for her to come up and ended up bringing her home for just $25!

My auction companion that day, my father-in-law, was a little surprised that I went for her, considering the rather extensive tears in the canvas. But honestly, I don't feel they take away from her beauty one bit.

There's just something about her that I find completely captivating.

Now comes the difficult decision… do I attempt a little restoration myself, or entrust her to a professional? Either way, I think she's worth saving.

I may not be able to install a chandelier, but that certainly doesn't stop me from hanging one anyway! This beauty is purely decorative, and I'm perfectly happy with that.

One of the most rewarding parts of selling antiques is having the opportunity to live with beautiful pieces for a little while before they find their next home. And, of course, every now and then something finds a permanent home with me instead.

I'm still deciding whether this chandelier has found its perfect spot, but for now, it's bringing some much-deserved sparkle to our living room.

I've always loved the contrast of humble, primitive pieces alongside the gilt finishes, graceful cabriole legs, and refined details of French antiques. There's something about mixing the rustic with the elegant that makes a room feel collected over time.

I set this lovely antique kitchen table out on the porch for pickup today and couldn't resist taking a photograph when I saw how beautifully it paired with my newly acquired hand-carved French pine armoire. Aren't they stunning together?

This is also a little glimpse into the reality of my front porch, which has slowly become my very own little vintage storefront!

It's long, narrow, and admittedly a bit challenging to organize, but I'm working toward making it a more welcoming and enjoyable place to browse.

My hope is that someone might stop by to pick up a piece they've purchased and find themselves lingering a little longer, discovering another treasure or two that speaks to them.

It's very much a work in progress, but I'm enjoying watching it evolve. 🤍

Behind every woman with an antique obsession is a husband who never applied for the job. 😂

Mine just happens to be my hardest-working, unpaid employee!

Yesterday’s mission? Removing seven chandeliers and a pair of electrified sconces from a nearby property.

Was he thrilled? Not particularly. Did he make quick work of it anyway? Absolutely. ❤️

Now comes the fun part… figuring out what to do with all of them!

I personally think we need a chandelier in the garage. He remains unconvinced.

And then there's the 36-inch beauty, whose permanent home might be the biggest challenge of all.

Some of these lovely pieces will eventually be offered for sale, while others may just find their way into our home.

I'm certainly not opposed to turning an entire room into a little Versailles-inspired hall of mirrors. A girl can dream! ✨

A little rustic, a little romantic, and perhaps just a touch haunting.

An old barn door, a classical painting in an ornate gilded frame, and a wonderfully weathered Cupid.

Three pieces with very different personalities, brought together by their age-worn character and the stories they seem to carry.

I've always loved the contrast between something beautifully refined and something wonderfully primitive.

The rough texture of old wood makes the gilded frame feel even more special, while Cupid's peeling paint and rust give him a quiet, almost melancholy charm.

For me, decorating with old things has never been about everything matching. It's about finding unexpected connections between pieces that speak to you.

There’s something about haunting old portraits, sculptures, and figurines that has always called to me.

Over the years, I’ve found myself collecting crayon portraits, old photographs, and oil paintings of people I’ll never know.

What fascinates me most about antique portraiture is how calm and at ease the subjects often appear. There are no forced smiles, no elaborate expressions, no apparent need to be anything other than themselves. Just a person sitting quietly, looking toward something we can only imagine.

And perhaps that's what makes them so haunting.

We cannot see what they saw. We cannot look in quite the same direction anymore. Their world has passed, and whatever occupied their thoughts in that moment has gone with it.
Yet there they remain, perfectly still, seemingly content to simply be.

I sometimes wonder if there's something to be learned from these faces of the past. Something about slowing down, sitting quietly, and being present in a moment without needing to fill it.

Perhaps that's why I keep bringing them home.

It’s no secret that I love old pieces and seeing how they come alive in a new space with thoughtful styling. But there’s a whole different kind of joy that comes when those pieces become part of the everyday moments that make a house a home.

I recently swapped out our dining room table for an old pine harvest table. When we had extended family coming over and needed more seating, I pulled another harvest table alongside it and the result has been a little bit of magic.

What started as a temporary solution has completely changed the way our family uses this room. Now, while I’m preparing dinner, one end of the table can be set for our meal while the other is filled with Legos, games, and whatever project the kids are working on. Instead of clearing everything away or asking everyone to move, we can simply share the space.

The tables don't match perfectly. Their finishes are different, their lengths aren't quite the same, and they both carry the marks of years gone by. But somehow, together, they feel just right.

And while I’ve always loved the beauty and character of old furniture, moments like these remind me that its greatest value isn't always in how it looks.

Sometimes it's in the way it brings people together.

Which came first : the cabinet or the cornichon jar? 💚

The cornichon jar, actually!

I just love how these two pieces found each other. The pickle jar is now quite at home in this
old painted cupboard.

The colors aren't an exact match, but that's exactly what makes them so interesting. One is soft and mottled, the other rich and timeworn, and somehow they look as though they were always meant to be together.

That's the beauty of collecting old things. Sometimes you don't even realize how one piece has influenced your eye until another comes along and the two just belong.

A little reminder that decorating doesn't always have to begin with a plan. Sometimes it begins with something that catches your eye.
