A message from Barbato Flowers and Greenhouse:
The career of the florist and grower gives you a glimpse into the milestones of your customer's life through the language of flowers.
You are there for joyous events like births, birthdays, and graduations. You get to provide part of first dates, proms, and anniversaries. You help build the decorations, set up the space, fuss over the details, and provide the bouquet for the couple celebrating their wedding day. It also makes you present in parts of life where sympathy and caring is needed. For when illness strikes, people are grieving, or the time to say goodbye has come.
It is a responsibility we are honored to have provided to our customers over the last 94 years. However, as honored as we continue to be by your trust and patronage over three generations, we have made the decision to permanently close our doors as of the end of business today. This was a tough decision and one that was not come to lightly.
We realize as much as we have impacted your lives you have impacted ours. We want to take the time to thank all of the staff we have had the honor to serve with over the decades. Many of you are like family to us and we cherish that you were a part of our lives. For all the customers who have come to us for years, including the local school districts, churches, and funeral homes, we are happy to have provided our flowers and plants to you. Some of you even followed us from our old location on Allen Ave to our current one where we have been located since 1974.
Our business has always been family owned, and all of our relatives, cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, and grandparents left their mark here in some way. Some literally have their names etched in the concrete of our floors, while others are such a part of the business it’s hard to imagine things without them. We always had the best owners and operators at the reigns from Domenico, to Pat, to Joe, and to Jean. The first three are no longer with us, but their echoes can still be heard in our walkways if you listen close enough.
As for Jean, she is looking forward to being able to enjoy a weekend without working for the first time in many years (as her son is writing this he feels compelled to say: "And you are going to do that right Mom? Right.").
We always wanted to end on our own terms and with this we shall. Thank you again to everyone who has visited us over our 94 years. We will miss you all!
Sincerely,
The Barbato Family
