Sweet 16. 🤍

Today marks 16 years cancer-free.

Sixteen years ago, melanoma changed the course of my life. I was preparing to attend the San Francisco Conservatory of Music after earning my degree in opera from Cal State Fullerton when everything came to a sudden stop.

I was incredibly fortunate. We caught it early. I didn’t need chemotherapy or radiation. But that doesn’t mean it didn’t change me.

For a long time, I mourned the life I thought I was supposed to live. The music. The stage. The dreams I had carefully planned.

But somewhere along the way, someone gave me a different story.

One filled with a fiance I adore, five incredible kids, a business that lets me create every single day, and a life I never could have imagined.

Some anniversaries still stir up emotions, some years I ignore it completely and that’s okay. We can be deeply grateful for the life we have while still honoring the life we once envisioned.

This year, though, I’m choosing something different.

I’m choosing hope.
I’m choosing abundance.
I’m choosing joy.

Here’s to Sweet 16. 🤍
