I have a pet portrait en route to a customer and I can't wait for them to see it! I LOVE incorporating the pet's personality as well as a lot of hidden details. I want them to look at it and find something new every single time.

Fun fact - pet portraits are two paintings in one. First is the pets, painted in reverse on plexiglass (difficult concept even for my artist friend who was an engineer by trade...I'm looking at you, Bobbi!). Second is a full background where I line up details behind the reverse painting. I don't even know how to explain it. But, when I put them together, it creates a layered effect...which is also difficult to capture in a photograph.

Anyhoo...painting on the way...can't wait for the reveal!!!

If you're wondering why John is the star of this photo, there's a reason. ❤️

When I sat down to count the members of our family who have served, I had to do it several times.

Seventeen family members in uniform.

Navy. Army. Air Force. Marines. National Guard. Police. Fire.

My husband. My brother. My father-in-law. Two grandfathers. A great uncle. Three uncles. Seven cousins. A nephew. And countless others across our wider family who have also worn a uniform.

But John is front and center for me.

The three photos in the middle span his nearly 26-year career in law enforcement — from the young trooper who first put on that uniform to the man who eventually retired from it.

I knew the long hours. The missed holidays. The middle-of-the-night phone calls. The worry that sometimes came with watching him leave for work. And I also knew how much that badge, that uniform, and the responsibility that came with them meant to him.

So while this collage represents generations of service in our family, John represents the part of that service I lived beside.

Twelve down. And OH. MY. GOODNESS. 😍🎨

Every painting in my new series is officially complete — and somehow, every single one surprised me.

Each became exactly the emotion I wanted it to be... just not necessarily in the way I expected. Which, honestly, is one of my favorite things about creating.

Now they need to dry, get their finishing coats, and then I can FINALLY show you.

And no, I didn't take pictures. I know myself. I can't keep secrets. 😂

Stay tuned. This one is worth the wait.
