If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, I have a love/hate relationship with zinnias. But what I do know is that I love them most when 1) they're the Queen (Queenie) series 2) I'm harvesting them in the fall or early summer when my skin isn't melting off from the heat and every bug this side of Mississippi isn't biting me and 3) I'm not trying to stretch a succession beyond it's healthiest point.

Marigolds: they're not the flower you think of when you imagine growing cut flowers but they're the most reliable, growers in heat and drought, they last FOREVER in a vase, and the African variety like Coco Gold get giant blooms and long stems like these pictured here!

🌸🌼Want to visit our flower farm?🌼🌸 There are only THREE times to do it before the end of the year!!

1) Seedling sale: October 3rd! You can pre-order a fall planted cottage cutting gardens tray of seedlings for your home garden: we get these special little guys started for you and you reap the bounty in the spring. If you want a little more hands on instruction, add on a 30 minute class where I'll go over the ins and outs of overwintering spring bloomers. 🌱

2) Fall dried centerpiece arrangement workshop: Friday, November 20th. Think drinks, snacks, friends, cozy vibes and a gorgeous, long lasting arrangement to impress every at Thanksgiving! 🍂

3) One of our two evergreen wreath workshops December 4th and 5th! Learn how to make a live greens wreath decorated with our farm grown and gathered bits and bobs. Enjoy a hot cocoa bar, Christmas music and start the season with a wreath that will last through the whole winter! 🎄

When you live in the south and you farm in any capacity, you get familiar with grass. You generally wage some form of war against it whereever it is not wanted.

It has, therefore, been a delightful joy to grow a grass that bends to my will, grows where it is placed and puts on a show! Meet: frosted explosion grass or SPRINKLES as the seed packet referred to it. I like either one. The botanical name is also fun: panicum elegans.

Delightful all around. I, Jessica, am quick to slash crops from the grow list, but this one...may stay. 😂 probably will. Okay, it will.

We know, we know, *false fall*, say it with us: FALSE FALL. Don't get used to it, don't get comfortable. Put the sweatshirt back into the winter drawer and don't you dare pack up the bathing suits yet.

But...enjoy the crisp mornings and if you know a florist who buys from a local grower who might just happen to have these delicious fall colors...perhaps you purchase a fall floral arrangement for the table? Just spitballing here. 😉
