FLOWER. FACT. FRIDAY!
Fall is one of the busiest times on my little flower farm and pretty much everything needs to be done between Halloween and Thanksgiving so the clock is officially ticking!

It's time for me to rip out all of my annual flowers, amend my soil, re-apply mulch, and plant hundreds of bulbs, corms, and seedlings in preparation for spring. It's a lot but it's also beautifully cathartic to get a fresh start and have all winter to dream of the beauty that will show up in spring.

Operation Prepare for Spring is underway!
This weekend I said goodbye almost all of my annuals 🥲 so that we can put down fresh mulch and have room to plant all my seedlings babies!

FLOWER. FACT. FRIDAY.
Before I started officially flower farming I had no idea what soil testing was… Basically, you send a ziplock bag of dirt to a lab and then they tell you how nutritious your soil is and if you need to make any changes.

I do this every fall & I send in two samples because I have my Original garden beds and also some New ones.

In the first image, you can see that the new ones are a little low on some things but in the second image, I actually have too many nutrients in the original garden beds 😅

I’ll be adding blood meal & bone meal to the soil in my new growing area and making sure to cover crop whenever I can to the original.

Hopefully these two changes will get both areas into the sweet spot for next year’s blooms!

I was really hoping to have one final flower cart day this Saturday but Mother Nature said nope.
I will have a few jar arrangements available so comment below or message me to snag one while they last!

This will most likely be your last chance to get fresh, local flowers this season (unless you’re a Year in Flowers club member!).

FLOWER. FACT. FRIDAY!
This year was a hard year to be a plant. With record breaking heat & drought, I’m pretty sure we all lost plants.

In case you’re in the market to replace some things, here’s what flowering plants did well for me:

Perennials (safe to plant now)
- Lisianthus *
- Roses
- Salvia
- Sage
- Verbena *
*Check nurseries that specialize in native plants; these are a bit harder to find at big box stores

Annuals (plant in May)
- Basil
- Celosia
- Cosmos
- Zinnias
