Every year, Keefe's Flowers donates roses
to the veterans cemetery for Memorial Day.

Placed one by one
at the feet of the fallen.

That's what this community does.
That's who we are.

I've known about this for years.
Today was the first time
I actually came.

And I am not the same person
who walked through those gates.

There were veterans there today.
Walking among their own.
Stopping at stones.
Reading every name.
Not rushing.
Not looking away.

Men and women who served
still showing up
for the ones who didn't make it home.

That alone
will break you open
if you let it.

Families standing in silence
with flowers and no words.
Because some things
don't have words.
They only have presence.

Roses laid in the grass.
A flag snapping in the wind.
A plaque that said Dad.

And me,
just trying to hold it together.

I didn't go there for content today.
I felt called to go.
Something in me just knew I needed to.

A rose in a place like this
doesn't mean beauty.

It means witness.

It means:
we know what this ground holds.
We have not forgotten.
We are still here
because you were.

To every name on every stone,
to every family who keeps coming back,
to every veteran still carrying what they saw,

You are not forgotten.
Not today.
Not ever.

If you haven't gone yet,
the cemetery is open until 8 tonight.

You don't have to bring anything.
You don't have to say anything.

Just walk through those gates.
Let it reach you.
Let yourself feel the full weight
of what was given
so that you could have
this ordinary, extraordinary day.

You will not regret it.
I promise you that.

This is what Melanie does.
