The Midwest Antique and Arts Show opened its doors in 1986 and remains at its original site at the Hawkeye Downs Fairgrounds in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Midwest Show is well known for its emphasis on Americana and related accessories associated with a metropolitan antiques show with booths displaying quality antiques of the 18th, 19th centuries through the Mid-century Modern era. The Collector's Eye collectable antiques show, added in 2007, has a different emphasis focusing on quality collectible from roughly the 1890s through the mid-1950s. Both shows open and close at the same time with opening being at 10:00 a.m., and closing at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30th, 2022. A $10 dollar per person admission allows access to BOTH shows.

110 antiques dealers participate in this combined show venue allowing significant opportunity for the buying public to discover and purchase distinctive objects that have been specially saved for these shows by participating dealers. Mark Sunday, October 30th on your calendar and be sure to join us.

Who says a tool can’t be a work of art?

Dating to 1877–1882, this Stanley No. 42 Gunmetal Type 5 plow and filletster plane may well be one of the most beautiful and ornate planes Stanley ever produced.

Complete with both gunmetal and cast iron fences, the cast iron filletster bed, and 10 blades.

A remarkable survivor from an era when even the tools could be works of art.

See it at the Midwest Antique & Art Show, October 25 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The beauty of folk art is that it doesn’t always explain itself.

This freestanding carved wooden cow, dating to approximately 1925–1945, carries the gentle patina of age — and a little mystery about the hands that made it.

Perhaps a toy. Perhaps the work of a talented carver during a long Midwestern winter. Either way, it’s a wonderful piece of American folk art with plenty of personality.

Coming to Midwest Antique & Art Show with Jane Langol.

135 years old. But sure to cure an ordinary wall.

Circa 1890, from an Ohio factory, this colorful advertising chromolithograph promoted Sequah’s Oil and Prairie Flower remedies, makes some bold promises in equally bold colors.

Printed on linen, it dates to the heyday of chromolithography, when printers used separate stones or plates to build up those wonderfully deep colors.

Early advertising meets graphic design.

This and other wonderful examples from the same collection are coming to the Midwest Antique & Art Show with Big Creek Antiques.

Manhattan to Midwest.

While New York City was growing into a bustling commercial center, Thomas Commeraw, a formerly enslaved Black American, was making stoneware in his Lower Manhattan pottery.

More than two centuries later, here’s one of his three-gallon jugs, with its distinctive cobalt-blue decoration headed to Cedar Rapids.

Did you see the rabbit?

It might take a second look beside what Kay calls the best stack of oval pantry boxes she’s ever owned — sitting atop a bittersweet-painted small blanket chest with till.

But there he is. A tiny rabbit, leaning against the stack and absolutely refusing to be overlooked.
