Tate&Bugs

Tate&Bugs I love a good find, re-creating, designing originals, and uncovering potential in forgotten pieces. Tate & bugs is where I can share all of that with you.

"SHE'S A DREAMER, A DOER, A THINKER. SHE SEES POSSIBILITY EVERYWHERE." I found early in life the joy in creating things with my own hands. I grew up in a family with 6 kids and loved it! My parents encouraged and even helped us find all of our interests and helped them to grow. I remember a time, I couldn't have been more than 10, I made a collection of beaded embroidery thread bracelets every lit

tle girl makes. I went door to door in my neighborhood trying to sell them. Not one sold, so I gave them to my friends. Another time when I was a kid, I was not allowed to use mama's sewing machine without her supervision (obviously). Back when I was 9 years old my little brother was born. Mama was at the hospital delivering him and I thought it was the perfect time to sneak! I got the sewing machine out and found some baby boy fabric and made a double lined baby blanket complete with ribbon knots to keep the layers together. When mama brought my brother home, I gave her the blanket and from then on, she gave me permission to use her machine whenever I wanted (despite my being disobedient). Daddy is very creative! He's always making something out of sheetmetal. As I got older, I was able to use the bigger tools in the garage. Daddy helped me along the way learning how to use many of them. I remember him teaching me to weld, and to this day, that is still a tool that is on my wishlist! Daddy is definitely my inspiration when it comes to working with metals. My love for hand making things has only grown stronger through the years! And that is what brings us to Tate&Bugs. I am very grateful to have a husband that encourages me when I make things and trusts me when I grab a piece of "garbage" from off the side of the road. He has even surprised me with a couple broken but beautiful pieces in the past. I love the challenge in creating different things and trying out different styles. I never wish to be like a "factory" and make the same thing over and over again. I feel like that strips some joy from the process. However, though It is hard to exactly duplicate something from "happily homed" because of the salvaged materials used, if you see something you love, I would be more than willing to do my best to re-create it upon request. If you have a request for a custom order, just contact me and we can work through the details together. Some items I feel won't ship well, so shipping will be determined on a 'per-item' basis as I do not wish to ship something that may not reach you in optimal condition. If shipping is needed, I will give you a quote for the shipping cost in addition to the item price. I hope my page can be a source of entertainment as well as inspiration! Have fun following me on my perfectly imperfect journey of creating and learning along he way! And don't forget, part of creativity is not being afraid to fail. Enjoy making life beautiful one idea at a time.

Our Winter Pop up Shop was wildly successful and we still have several shop appointments popping up!

I just wanted to thank you all so much for showing up for us.
I can do all the work I can handle, but the real magic happens with you.

I know I completely ghosted my Instagram account for 2 years, but when I showed back up, I was flooded with love and support and so much kindness!

Thank you so much for that. ♡ ♡ ♡

I’ve have had countless compliments from you that have helped the self doubt slowly fade in the background. You’ve continued to give me courage and have helped me to believe even stronger that this is a real thing we can grow and turn into something that will truly bless our family. Something more than just a hobby.

I’m so intimidated and also equally excited for our next steps in growth in the new year and would be thrilled to have you come along with us for it!

Thank you for making it possible for me to keep doing what I love. We are truly humbled.

This vintage Spanish chandelier crystal Christmas tree has been in my mind for several months!

I purchased this wire tree shaped rack at a yard sale a few years ago and didn’t know what I wanted to do with it until I re-wired 4 antique brass Spanish chandeliers.

I stripped the chandeliers of the crystals, and washed them.
I knew come Christmas time, they would make the prettiest display paired with the tree form.

It turned out exactly how I imagined! There are over 160 vintage crystals on it and I know it could hold more!

I will thoroughly enjoy looking at this magical piece until someone decides to take it home!

Arizona was such a great time!

I’m so so grateful to for inviting me to tag along on her work trip! The amount of beauty in Arizona did not disappoint! I am now a big fan of desertscapes 😍
There were SO many fancy places to visit, but of course I had to get some out of state thrifting in while I was there!

I went with a carry-on, knowing that I would most likely need to buy a suitcase to check. The suitcase I found for $22 is absolute vintage PERFECTION and was exactly what I needed for bringing back my finds!

Looking forward to the day I source vintage out of state 😍 I could get used to traveling 🫶🏼

We still have Thanksgiving to enjoy with our families, but I wanted to give you a heads up on our last shop day of the year!!!

November 22, we will be open from 8am-7pm with the halls decked and ready for you as you prepare for the long awaited cozy Christmas season! We’ve got our signature style found pieces as always, along with a scattering of curated Christmas finds!
And if you’re in need of any brass candlesticks, big or small, you’ll find what you’re looking for here!

☕️ 🍪 I will also have my friend here set up with some amazing tasty home baked treats (gooey chocolate chip cookies topped with flake salt sound good to anyone?) as well as breves and lattes for purchase!

Mark your calendars and make plans on coming out to say hi and see what catches your eye!
