Beacon Hill Books & Cafe in Boston, designed by Cathy Kincaid, captivated me because, as you approach its doorstep, you know you are about to step into another world.
The experience begins before you enter. Potted bushes lead you toward a high-gloss red door reminiscent of Parisian front doors. Inside, this Greek Revival townhome unfolds through beautiful architectural details and unexpected moments, from the tiny mouse entry door and grand staircase to the whimsical children's door.
I especially loved how every detail contributes to the experience. Exquisite wallcoverings and matching sconce shades complement a neutral palette that lets the intricate trim work shine. Along the staircase, the wallpaper follows its shape beautifully and coordinates perfectly with the wainscoting.
Small discoveries are everywhere. Silverware art hints that the cafe awaits downstairs. Built-in bookshelves feature gold accent lighting, thoughtful category markers, integrated HVAC registers, and charming carved acorns.
You can tell everything was selected with intention. Architecture, color, pattern, lighting, craftsmanship, and whimsy come together to transform this narrow three-floor bookstore into a place that makes you want to slow down, explore, and stay awhile.
It is the perfect retreat to find your next adventure, both within its rooms and within the pages of a book.
