Sometimes the smallest update is the one that makes the whole room click.

We added this paper to the back of the existing built-ins for a little extra warmth, texture, and depth. It has the look and feel of grasscloth, but made sense for a spot where much of it would ultimately be layered behind books, art, and collected pieces.

Subtle, but SO good once everything came together.

A bathroom refresh doesn’t have to come with a bathroom-renovation budget. 👏

We spent where it mattered, worked with what was already here, and made smaller swaps that added up to a much bigger change.

New lighting, mirrors, faucets, textiles, and a smarter solution for the medicine cabinet were enough to take this bathroom somewhere completely different. No gut job required.

Not everything needs to be new to make a space feel completely refreshed.

Our clients already had this Room & Board dining table and the statement light fixture, so we kept both and worked from there. The table got a new life with a darker stain that ties in with the wood tones we brought into the rest of the main floor, while the existing light fixture helped inspire the new fixture in the adjacent sitting area.

Add in pieces from our client’s art collection (which inspired so much of the color throughout this home), and suddenly the things they already owned feel right at home in a completely refreshed space.

Ten years in this home and this might be the first time this window is getting the attention it deserves.

This octagon-shaped bay looks out over the Navy Yard and is prime people-watching territory, so we created a sitting area with four small-scale swivel chairs that can do a little bit of everything.

Turn them toward the windows to watch the neighborhood (or the crowds heading to a Nats game), face them in for drinks and a card game, or swivel toward the dining room when everyone’s hanging out together.

A very good use of a very good window.

Last week, I had the chance to visit Moe’s Home Collection and spend some time exploring their incredible showroom. So much inspiration in one place, but one of the best parts was getting to meet and connect with other designers along the way.

A huge thank you to Jamie Jay.Kay Sales and the entire Moe’s team for inviting me and being such wonderful hosts!

And, of course, I couldn’t go all the way to Vancouver without fitting in a little exploring too. Such a beautiful city and a very fun few days away. 🤍

Your house should work for the people who live there every day, not just the people who visit a few times a year.

Most days, this is a comfortable home office (and apparently a pretty great hangout spot for the dog). When guests come to town? A queen bed in seconds.

We love a room that can do both. 👏

Why dedicate an entire room to guests who only visit a few times a year?

This space needed to function as our client’s office 90% of the time, so we swapped the bulky bed for a queen sleeper sofa and gave him a built-in desk with plenty of storage to keep the everyday clutter under control.

Now it feels like an actual office (with a prime couch spot for the dog 🐶), but when family comes to town, the sofa pulls out into a queen bed and, voila, they have their own private guest space.

One room, two jobs, and a much better use of the space.

Next up in our team series: meet Patty, our Lead Stylist & Operations Manager!

Patty is all about making everyday life a little more beautiful. She’ll drink water out of the crystal, set the table even if it’s just her and the kids, happily bring home something she found on the street, and ignore anyone who tells her open shelving is “out.” 😂

She’s also an identical twin, a mom of three boys, a former social worker, an avid reader, and currently making a very strong case for the return of the ballet flat.

Swipe to get to know Patty a little better!

The goal for this primary bedroom was simple: a space that felt like a retreat without a lot of fuss.

We kept the bedding clean with one long lumbar pillow and let the York wallpaper do the talking. It adds just enough interest to the room and reflects the light so beautifully throughout the day. ✨

A reading corner and a nightstand were both on her wishlist, so naturally we found room for both. 💕

We created a cozy reading spot on one side of the bed and kept the nightstand on the other, then used two different-height lamps to balance everything out.

A little bit playful, a little bit practical, and exactly what she asked for. 🌈
