Why Haiti, and Why Now?
Recently, the loss of Temporary Protected Status has left hundreds of thousands of Haitians in the United States facing profound uncertainty about their futures and the possibility of returning to a country experiencing an ongoing humanitarian crisis.
It made us want to take a closer look at Haiti, not only through the headlines, but through the people, communities, and work that continue to exist beyond them.
One place we found that story is in something as simple as a chocolate bar.
We’re highlighting River-Sea Chocolate’s Haiti bar because of their partnership with Haitian cacao farmers and cooperative leaders through Singing Rooster. Over the past three years, River-Sea has purchased more than 21 tons of Haitian cacao, while working with their farming partners to improve fermentation, consistency, flavor, and access to the fine chocolate market.
We love the intentionality behind that relationship, and we wanted to help bring a little more attention to the story behind the bar.
