Today would have been my dad’s 65th birthday 🤍
None of you know this, but the big pink circle holding my tallow testers has a story. My dad made it for my wedding to sit on top of the barrel that held my cake. I eventually got rid of the barrel, but I never could get rid of the piece he made to fit perfectly on top. So I painted it pink, repurposed it, and now it comes with me to every show.
My dad had rough dry skin, and I can still picture him lathering himself in all kinds of lotions trying to help it. I just know he would’ve used my tallow and loved it. Sometimes that makes this little business bittersweet because I wish so badly I could give some to him.
And yes, the song is a little more emotional than my normal reel songs. That part about introducing the kids to their grandpa gets me. My dad was SO funny, and with how silly my kids are, I tell them all the time, “Your Papa would be laughing so hard at you right now.” I just wish they could’ve gotten to know that laugh for themselves. 🤍
Seeing so many of you today was such a blessing and helped take my mind off the harder parts of the day. Just a reminder to be kind. You never know what someone might be carrying behind their smile.
Happy 65th birthday, Dad. I miss you. 🤍
