ONE ROOM AT A TIME ✨

This March, I’m hosting an intimate, in-home design workshop for those who love creating beautiful spaces and want to learn how designers really think.

One Room at a Time is a full-day, hands-on course taught in my home, where we’ll walk through floor plans, color stories, pattern mixing, furniture, lighting, and the art of layering, using real rooms as our guide.

It seems rather fitting that today, the beginning of the Chinese New Year and The Year of the horse, I should find this sketch that I drew in 1983. I was 15 years old ,my life revolved around ponies and horses. Freedom, energy,strength and forward momentum are the traits of this year.

It’s my New Year and a time to re engage and make decisions.

A time of action.

One of my other great loves is flower arrangement. I get to play stylist on photo shoots and let my imagination have free rain. Here is a snippet from one of my recent completed projects.

I love a good dramatic branch and keep clippers in my car incase I see something fabulous, at which point I veer off the road and get to pilfering…

A simple branch can sometimes create a stunning visual, unexpected and dramatic.

So get your clippers out and go wandering.

Custom bed frames are the epitome of luxury bedroom design. I design them for all my clients. Whether it’s a full frame or a headboard I love the option of adding a beautiful fabric to the bed. It feels so grounding to me and adds that additional layer.

I custom design all of my headboards and manufacture them here in North Carolina.

Classics never date. This house of a long term client I first designed 18 years ago in the era of reds and golds. Roll forward many years later and we reimagined it by lightening the color palette, painting once heavy dark trim and reupholstering the existing furniture with new more neutral colors.

I have always stayed away from trends and create interiors that are classics and timeless.

I’m especially fond of soft natural colors these days but I always love a pattern or two thrown in for good measure.

Kitchen design is a challenge in breaking the old stereo types and giving them a fresh new perspective.

Kitchens have become more prominant as floor plans have shifted to more open plan spaces.
So in my opinion they have to have more interest than the typical cabinet layouts.

I like rethinking storage options, islands, vent hoods, actually all parts of the kitchen. I want them to have architectural components, Volume and unexpected details.

A calm warmth envelopes this primary suite. My clients are world travelers and they wanted their bedroom to feel like a luxurious hotel but with exquisite fabrics.

The combination of a lush wool carpet, heavily lined linen drapes, mohair fully upholstered bed frame and a silk mohair upholstered oversized chair and ottoman, leave you wanting to stay in bed. I enveloped the room with a deep seal grey to finish off the feel.

My old cabin taken in the 70’s before it was moved to its current location and restored.
It’s fascinating to me to think of the stories that these old logs witnessed, words spoken, life lived.
I’m Airbnb the cabin for the rest of the summer. If you are interested in experiencing a quiet spot. Filled with history and truly a cabin lost in time. DM me for availability.
It’s now restored, comfortably outfitted with modern conveniences and close to galleries, Asheville, Burnsville, Weaverville.

I never met an antique I didn’t love. This project in Cashiers encompassed all my favorite designs components. A rustic backdrop and lots of antiques.

When you have a client that is an avid collector, it’s so much fun to rearrange the collection with a fresh perspective.

I’m busy unloading another container from my own collection that I have amassed over the last thirty years and am booking time slots for next week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Family room comforts include a giant over sized sectional. For a family with active children this is the perfect spot for them all to unwind. The sectional is generous and the rest of the room is layered and allows for lots more seating for adult time.

I custom built this sofa as well as the other upholstery to be a custom fit for this space.
