Tale of the Cod has officially closed its doors. We are endlessly thankful to the customers who shopped with us, the employees who shaped our days,the reps and vendors who supported us behind the scenes, and the beautiful town we called home - Chatham. We extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our 65 year journey. Each of you helped make this little shop by the sea a success ❤️

We are now at 50% off all remaining inventory (with a few exceptions).
Due to the overwhelming response to our closing sale, we will be closing sooner than expected. This type of sale is very difficult to forecast, and we truly appreciate your incredible support.

If you have gift cards or store credits, please try to stop in this weekend, we will continue accepting them through Monday, December 1st.

We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and memories shared since announcing that Tale of the Cod will be closing it’s doors. Your kind words, stories, and support have meant more than we can say!
We know you have a lot of questions - here are some answers;
Tale of the Cod is closing because the owners/operators of the past 46 years are transitioning to well deserved retirement. The property has been sold. The business, Tale of the Cod, was offered with the building, and it was offered separately, but there was no interest. So, unfortunately, we are closing permanently.
We are running a going out of business sale with the entire store currently at 30% off (with just a couple exceptions). We most likely will increase percents off - that timing is to be determined and we cannot guarantee what items will still be here - everything is selling quickly!

Our time has come to say goodbye… Tale of the Cod will be closing its doors at the end of the year. We are discounting all in stock inventory from 30% to 50% off (with a few exceptions).
