Born from the community spirit of Chattanooga’s first Renaissance Festival, this sculpture is a celebration of women’s hands. Hands that build, hold, support, protect, create, comfort, and carry us.
Created by a gathering of women and formed from the hands of more than ten individuals, it was intentionally made rough, ancient, ritualistic, brutal, unfinished in places, and above all, powerful. Women are so often represented as delicate, polished, and ornamental. This piece honors women as formidable. As builders. As forces of love and strength.
Every festival, every community, and every work of art is built by many hands.
Step into our throne room at the Chattanooga Renaissance Festival tomorrow and let yourself be held for a moment by the women who created it.
Welcome to The Throne of Holding.
