1976 pop culture was defined by the U.S. Bicentennial, iconic movies like Rocky and Carrie, hit TV shows such as Charlie's Angels and Laverne & Shirley, and music trends including early disco, punk (Ramones), and singer-songwriter classics from Stevie Wonder & Bob Dylan.

More importantly in 1976...

Straits Area Glass hired an 18 year old young man by the name of Stephen Coatta!

Along side my father (Tom Kennedy) Steve brought our business into new markets such as replacement Vinyl Windows and custom Shower Doors.
He also brought us into new geographical markets across the Mighty Mac including but not limited to St. Ignace, Cedarville, Moran, and Brevort.

In his many years here Steve has worked on many islands including Bois Blanc, Les Cheneaux, Drummond, and his beloved Mackinac Island.

In his career Steve has replaced windows on most of the surrounding Great Lakes Lighthouses, the Paisley mansion (among others), all the ferry boats to the islands, Cheboygan County Building, Prison Buildings, Citizens Bank, Wheeler Motors, Bishops, and the Grand Hotel just to name a very few.

He has helped design, fabricate, and install most every commercial storefront in the Straits Area. Most of those building twice and some them three times in his LONG career.

He was usually the first one here and last to leave sometimes even staying overnight around the job site when warranted. His dedication to his job and his customers has been a driving force to the success of Straits Area Glass.

Today December 31st 2025 when he leaves it will be the last time as an employee.
