Who's ready for some cool fall weather? I know we are!

Fall holds so much joy as the holidays approach and you can finally cozy up with a warm blanket and some hot soup or apple cider!

What is your favorite thing about fall?

Something about preserving our own food is just so satisfying and beautiful to me! There's nothing quite like pulling a jar off the shelf that you preserved yourself!

Our garden didn't do well this year due to our move, but I am so thankful to be able to support local farmers and provide the highest quality ingredients for my family!

Keep an eye out for some pictures and maybe a video of our diced tomato, salsa, and ketchup canning next week!

It's vacation time!

If you send us a message between August 24th-September 2nd, please forgive the delay in response. We most likely will not have cell service while hiking around national parks in Canada!

We will be back to answer any messages on September 3rd. Thank you all for your support and we will be back soon!

Ever find yourself rushing through the day and then sit down at the end and have absolutely nothing left? I'm guilty of this pretty much every day.

Making intentional time throughout your day to just put everything on pause gives your mind and body a chance to rest a reset. For me this happens while my son is down for his naps throughout the day. I'll still start a load of laundry or do a quick room pickup, but I also try make sure that I have at least 30 minutes to sit down and do nothing.

God does some of His best work when we are still and it gives us the ability to notice Him more in our day.

What are some times throughout your day that you can pause?

If you know me, you know I'm a planner. I tend to fill every second of my day with a timed out to-do list so I can make sure I get the most accomplished that I possibly can.

More often than not though, I fall short of my goals and then beat myself up at the end of the day because I wasn't as motivated as 6am Sarah was when she was drinking her coffee in the quiet and not chasing a fast crawling baby around the house.

Something I am having to learn as a new mother is how to make space for nothing. For me, this doesn't mean doing away with my to-do list, but rather choosing two or three things per day that I would like to get done during nap times and leaving the rest of my time open for whatever else ends up happening. Sometimes I get a lot more done than I had planned!

This simple change has given me time to slow down and enjoy my son's childhood a little more instead of occupying my mind with the things I'd planned to do but can't do because I'm spending time with my son. My priorities have shifted so much this past year and it's ok to not always be cleaning, cookings, weeding, etc...

"I feel guilty about not doing something more important with my time, like laundry or balancing the checkbook or meeting my neighbors or working or volunteering or serving the poor.

Those are, of course, important things to do and good and necessary ways to use time. But it takes strength to enjoy the world, and we must exercise a kind of muscle to revel and delight. If we neglect exercising that muscle-if we never savor a lazy afternoon, if we must always be cleaning out the fridge or volunteering at church or clocking in more hours-we'll forget how to notice beauty and we'll miss the unmistakable reality of goodness that pleasure trains us to see. We must take up the practice-the privilege and responsibility-of noticing, savoring, reveling, so that, to use Annie Dillard's phrase: "creation need not play to an empty house." - Tish Harrison Warren, liturgy of the ordinary, pg 136.

It has been a while since we've introduced ourselves and we've had a new addition to the family so we thought it was time to tell you a little about our life lately!

In November of 2023 we welcomed our son Judah into the world! Since then our lives have changed so much! On top of being new parents and figuring out how to function again, we moved out to the country!

We've always dreamed of having land and living more self-sufficiently and God opened the door for us to start that Journey in April of this year! Since then, we have added chickens to our farm and are getting ready to prep the pasture for calves and possibly some other livestock next spring! We are also getting a new garden space planned.

We appreciate all of you that are following along on our journey and we look forward to sharing more of our day-to-day lives on our small piece of earth!

Tish Harrison Warren wrote in "liturgy of the ordinary" - "When we enjoy God's creation, we reflect God himself."

For our sixth Anniversary my husband gifted me a new lense for my camera for nature and wildlife photography. Last weekend I was able to go observe the birds and nature near where we live and see them in a completely new way!

Genesis 1:31 says "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good..."

As I walked through the trees, I let myself see things I never thought to look for before; the sun through the leaves, I heard the wind blowing them about in a way that almost sounded like a roaring river. It was a beautiful experience that God himself took time to experience when He created the world.

I saw some of what God made and it was very good!

What have you seen this past week in God's creation that reminds you of this?

What can you do this weekend to slow down and experience this?

Where do you see God in your day today? When things are crazy and you feel overwhelmed, I promise you He is still there!...

Where do you see God in your day today?

When things are crazy and you feel overwhelmed, I promise you He is still there! He sees you and is always working for your good!

Hold on to that today as you go about your day-to-day.

Work.

This is something that has been on my mind a lot lately. As a society, we seem to have shifted our focus to living to work. We get up, get dressed, go to work, come home, sleep, and repeat. This has been weighing heavy on my heart. When did this become the norm?

At the beginning of this year, I quit a wonderful job that I loved so that I could focus on what I had at home; The most important work and ministry I will ever have; raising my son.

I hope and pray as he watches me, that he sees the value of what takes place in our home and that as he grows, he becomes a part of breaking the societal norms and returning to simpler things where family and home is more valuable than money.

Sometimes it's a simple walk in the pasture that reminds me to slow down and practice gratitude.

Today I'm thankful for the endless supply of different wildflowers that I seem to find each time I look around outside! It's amazing what some fresh flowers can do to brighten up a corner of our home!

What simple thing are you grateful for today?

Slow down. Look around you. What do you see that you may have never noticed before?

This is something I have to do daily to remind myself that God has placed things all around me to remind me of His constant presence and love for me. The things I have seen around me are so specific to my needs that it is profoundly obvious that He intended them for me because He loves me that much!

Whether it is people, places, or simply the nature around you I challenge you to simply notice. God has beautiful things for you that are right under your nose if you'll just take the time to see them.

Do you ever stop to appreciate the small mundane moments in life? When we reflect upon our lives it's crazy to see how little moments really make up most of our lives!

Why not enjoy those moments? Put your phone down, observe the things around you, inhale deeply, then exhale gratitude for the air you just breathed.

Life is precious! Don't forget to see that even in the small things.
