Let’s talk Chrysanthemums!!

This year we trialed a small patch of heirloom chrysanthemums, and completely fell in love with all their unique forms and colors. Because these gorgeous varieties are frost-hardy, they’ll allow us to extend our growing season well into the cooler months!

We are busy planning and couldn’t be more excited to make heirloom mums a major crop next year. A huge thank you to zantopia for providing some of the wonderful varieties that started it all!

❄️Frost has arrived❄️

I woke up at 6am, checked the temp (like I usually do this time of year) and we were at 26*. The end of the season is always bittersweet. Glad we had a few extra weeks of dahlias and they really put on a show this year after a slower start.

Today will be our last day of the farm stand being open- lots of gorgeous dahlias, zinnias, and a few late season gladiolus. We’ll be open 9am-6pm with mixed bouquets.

Now the work of digging, dividing and storing dahlias begins! If you bought from our dahlia tuber sale in the spring, follow along with my tips on winter storage. I’ll also be sending these in my email newsletter (link in bio to sign up!).

Lots of other prep work to do in the field- spreading manure, leaf mulch and planting tulips (already planning for spring 🌷). Info on our tulip flower subscription will be coming soon!

Frost came for some of our field last night but other flower remained untouched!

We’ll have limited number of bouquets Sunday through Wednesday this week (10/18-21) before we close for the season.

Loving that the dahlias are still pushing out blooms well into fall! I’m hoping to have another pop up this Sunday- stay tuned for details 😉

As we’re now in the middle of October it’s amazing to see how far these dahlias have come! We plant our just before Memorial Day and 4 months later we have the most beautiful blooms. It’s almost time to dig these up- I’ll be posting a few videos on our process of how we divide and store over winter. Feel free to dm if you have questions!
