Why do I recommend individual portraits?

Many times people think of being photographed in the context of family portraits or sibling portraits. While there is definitely a place for that... to show the connection and inclusion of the family unit... I strongly encourage you to reserve a session for each of your children individually.

What does this accomplish?

Typically, when we photograph a family group, each child's personality doesn't fully open up. Their "family" personality shows. They are matching clothing (as they should), they are doing their best to smile or stay in the pose with everyone else (as they should), they are interacting with their loved ones (as they should)... ALL ARE GOOD THINGS.

However...their own individual soul does not get to shine. Their own individual soul does not get to be filled or focused on.

This is why I specialize in that INDIVIDUAL portrait.

To help them showcase their style. To help them feel confident in who they are at that moment in their life. To truly showcase their own individual self.

Children walk away feeling seen and confident in who they are. It is truly a special treat for them. We have fun and create memories they will never forget.

They will look at their family portrait on the wall and think that they belong to this place. They will look at their own portrait on the wall and know that they...THEMSELVES... are also valued just for who they are.

Make sure you honor each child.

Celebrating your young men is just as important as celebrating daughters. It seems it is just so much harder to get the boys to agree on sessions. 9 times out of 10 though, once you get them in the door they have fun and relax. I have even had boys say "Oh, we are done already?"

Mama's, celebrate your sons. Even if we only do one outfit or even two. Even if we just stay in the studio or head out on the town... celebrate who they are right now.

Happy Birthday Emma! I hope we get to work together again one day... I am going to miss this girl and her mama!

The weeks are flying by and the move to North Carolina is fast approaching. My calendar is full with families and clients that I have worked with for many years. We are taking advantage of this last session opportunity. I do hope to return every other year to continue to create for the ones closest to my heart. Some have even committed to coming to visit me near the beach for a session as well. These people truly mean so much to me. Not one moment of being "their photographer" has been taken for granted. My business isn't about how many bodies I can get through the door, but the connection I make with each client and the ones who become part of my family who come back again and again. Their trust and loyalty mean everything to me. ❤
