KAINOS, what’s in the name.

You know, I almost named this whole thing “Here’s Your Sign.” But at the end of the day decided on something with a deeper meaning. Kainos. To understand where it came from I think you first have to understand what I make. I find old, damaged, unwanted wood and create something beautiful out of it. The process reminded me of my faith in Jesus, specifically the broken state he found me in and the new creation he’s continuously shaping me into. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Isn’t it crazy cool how just as verse describes how Christ transforms us, the second sentence also describes my process of restoring wood and turning it into beautiful barn wood signs? The thought of naming my crafty side hustle “Here’s Your Sign” gave me a giggle but I kept getting pulled back to the Biblical metaphor. Eventually, with the help of a friend, I uncovered a subtle way to work it into the name. Kainos is the Greek word for “new” used in 2 Corinthians 5:17. There we have it friends: KAINOS, crafts by Carly. Now you know! Every time I’m hand crafting a new sign for you I’m thinking about who I was before and who I am now in Christ.
