So sorry this is such a late post. Here are some before and afters of our martial arts school in Santa Cruz. I apologize I do not have better before pics but hopefully they will serve the purpose of showing you what the school looked like before. Unfortunately they do not do it justice but bare with me. The walls were three different colors of white and beige, they were dirty and brown in places, the door to the bathroom had hand prints everywhere, the baseboards were black, and there was a huge space for the office that truly wasn't used enough to dedicate that much space to that. In five days, we removed any and all decals that referred to the old school name, patched the holes, primed, painted, primed and painted the baseboards (from black to white is a lot of work but it paid off), created the belt display boards that you see in the after pictures above the mirrors, moved office furniture and seating areas around, removed signage off the windows that were stuck on and cleaned. It was exhausting!!! But so rewarding! Many people couldn't see my vision from the beginning but people are excited about the changes and love that there was so much love and hard work that went into making this happen. There is still more to come like adding things to the walls and our name to the front end but it will all slowly happen. Hope you guys enjoy!!

P.S. please try to look past the students when looking at the before pictures as those were meant to show the space before the changes. And again, thank you to all of our helpers who came out and helped us make this change so quickly.

Taking an innovative approach to a retail display in a small martial arts lobby. Usually slat walls or grid walls are used. As a DIYer, you know I made these myself BUT I know someone who can make these for you for your own home or even commercial spaces!!!

You guys!!!! I just stopped by the cutest and coolest new store in Folsom and had to share. My jaw dropped when I walked in. This store has to have some of the most gorgeous and creative furniture I've seen in a while and it's all handmade by a local guy. He lives in Folsom , he's down to earth, loves what he does, and can work with you to build you exactly what you need. When possible, shop local everyone!

That dining table in the picture is my next big purchase. Oh and all the items seen in the picture (frames, signs, candle holders, crates) were all made by him too! Check them out ppl. I promise you will be impressed.

My life is crazy busy right now, and I apologize for not posting anything in a while. My next project I am tackling is our guest bedroom. I'm already so excited about the design. I think it'll go perfectly with what we have going on in the rest of the house.

My message to you: Maybe you haven't found the energy to get some house projects done, Find your inspiration! I found mine. It all started with a lamp. Yes! As funny as that sounds it's a lamp that has been sitting in our garage. I started brain storming and it hit me like a train. I finally decided on a paint color and from there all my motivation started to come together, my brain started working, and I'm on the hunt! I hope you find whatever it is to get your juices flowing. Join me as I tackle another project. I hope to post as soon as possible but please understand life is crazy right now. I just wanted to post and hopefully this is a little kick in the butt for you to move on to your next project, whatever that may be!

And that's a rap for this boys room! Spoiled boys are so excited they are in there right now laughing, playing, and already making a mess! Another DIY project down: toddler beds. Alright friends and family, here is the final product for my entry table. I think it looks fabulous. I am over the moon with this one. Grey top, white base.

I specifically chose to use pieces of wood that had knots and breaks because I think it gives a piece more character. You can see some of those features in the pictures. But, they don't take away from the piece. It's perfectly imperfect. With the paint, you can see brush strokes in a way that gives it a washed look. It all came together nicely and I couldn't be more excited about this piece.

I loved making this piece so much, I will be making another one and putting that one up for sale. Stay tuned!!!

Anyone looking for a farmhouse table?! I know an amazing carpenter who has made a few of these tables and is asking $500 per table! That's a steal!!! Look for yourself. Etsy had some for 750 but they are 6' tables, plus the shipping. These are local (Folsom), broken down, and ready for pick up.

Ok, friends. I promised you an easy DIY beam mantel. For the one I made, here are the things you will need:
-4x6 beam cut to 54" (this could change for you depending on how wide your fireplace is and how wide you want your mantel to be)
-5/8" spade bit that was longer than the depth of the beam because it has to go all the way thru it
-3/4" masonry rotary drill
-1.25" selfeed bit
-sand paper 80 and 220
-stain of your choosing
-polyurethane to seal the stain
-4 lag bolts with 7.5" bolts and 2" expanding anchor for concrete or masonry
-black matte spray paint

Alright, let's get to it!!! I got my beam at the local hardware store. It came big and since it was thicker than my chop saw could chop, I had them cut it for me. Isn't that fantastic that they offer those services? I grabbed all my stuff and headed straight home to get this project started. I don't think it took more than four hours to do, if that.

I measured and spaced the bolts 14" on center. That left me 6" on the ends which I thought looked great. I started from the center and went out 7" each way, which gave me my first two positions. Then went 14" out from those and that gave me my outer positions. (I apologize if some of you are rolling your eyes at how detailed I go into it and are thinking "really? We can figure this out!".. some ppl like me need more directions). Use a T square ruler to ensure that you mark your spot 1.75" down from what will be the top of your mantel.

Why 1.75"? A 4x6 beam is only really 3.5x5.5. So you take what will be the face of the beam, 4" side and divide the real size (3.5) by 1/2. You get 1.75".

Ok, back to the good stuff. Once you get your markings, use the selfeed bit and only drill as deep as the head. The bit leaves a center mark which is so convenient and you can use this marking to drill with the spade bit. Use the spade bit to drill a hole all the way through the beam. Selfeed drill gives you the recessed area for the bolt to sit in rather than sitting directly on the face of the beam.

For the next part, have someone help you. Put the bolts thru the holes and use these to help you mark where you will need to drill for the expanding anchors. Use a level to make sure the beam is level when making your marks. Or, you can do what we did, and mark the brick like we did the beam when we first started. Also used a level to make sure the markings were level. Once those are marked, you can have your handy helper, or yourself, drill the holes (2" deep) into the brick with your masonry drill.

If your handy helper agrees, awesome! You get to move on to the painting and staining.

-Spray paint the head of the bolts. Simple.
-Sand the beam with the 80 paper first so that the rough stuff gets off faster. 220 for a smooth finish. Having and electric sander is a god send as it gets you thru this process much quicker.
-wipe down with damp cloth. Let dry
-Stain and seal.

After your helper has drilled the holes, placed the expanding anchors and the beam is dry, it's time to hang up your master piece and decorate!!!

Just wanted to give you a sneak peak at the little kitchen update. It's far from being done, well because I need more handles, 😂 and I would love to get new countertops and to put a backsplash on. But I just painted the lower cabinets in part of the kitchen and put the handles on and am absolutely in love with how it's turning out.

Something super fun and easy to do to a fireplace you just aren't excited about.

I'm not a red brick kind of girl. I can admire it in the right settings but really it's never been my style. I love the charm a real fireplace brings to a home and couldn't be more excited to have one in my new home. Here is an easy update to a brick fireplace that doesn't break the bank, is easy to do, and looks awesome!

Things you will need:
-damp cloth
-small sample size bottle of paint (whatever color your heart desires), I chose white,
-a paint brush
-water
-oh and a latter to get to the high spots ;)

I got about 4 ounces of paint and put about an 1 oz- 1.5oz of water. Stirred it together. If you want it thinner and less paint on the brick, add a little more water. Brush on a few bricks at a time. I would do about 7-10. Then, use damp mop to wipe away excess paint. That's it!!!

It took about an 1hr total.

We are painting the house and doing other updates. Can't wait to move in and show you how the fireplace brings the whole room together.
