Remember not being allowed to hide in your aunt’s fancy formal living room during hide and seek as a kid?
I don’t want a single room in my home that I don’t use and don’t enjoy spending time in, and I bet you don’t either.
Jeff and I were out to breakfast this weekend, talking about how much we love just sitting in our sitting rooms. Coffee, the paper, a good book, or a long conversation. Neither room has a TV. They are colorful, layered, and full of things that reflect our family’s hobbies and interests, so they spark curiosity and conversation. Every time I walk in, I feel good.
Case in point: that game table. I love doing puzzles in the winter, and it’s the perfect spot for a family board game night.
This isn’t a coincidence. Research shows our surroundings shape our stress levels, mood, and even how well we think. A room should beckon you in and make you want to stay awhile, and it should make your guests feel the same way. (It’s why we picked our diner, too. The vibe won over the menu. 😆)
Stay tuned for a peek at Jeff’s den next. 🦌.
If your home isn’t making you want to sit and stay, I’d love to help you figure out why and what to change. DM me to get started.
