I grew up in the fire department. My dad was the chief of our local department. He would miss holidays and family dinners. When the pager went off it was a family affair. Find the keys, the hat, the radio. My birthday parties were held at the station until I was 10. My family volunteered for literally every fundraiser. I was the secretary for our local department/association and even volunteered as a member for a short time. My boyfriend and his family members are also volunteers. It literally becomes a lifestyle.
It can be scary. It can be frustrating. And honestly, can be downright annoying. But there is no way to explain sense of family and pride that it brings. You only know, if you know. I will be forever grateful that this is the life I was able to grow up in. I have made life longs friends, and my family stretches far beyond the walls of my home.
I will always stand behind this men and women, and all the other first responders that put it all on the line for us. You really never understand until you’ve lived with it. ❤️
My values are rooted deep in what I’ve learned from being involved with these men and women, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
I made this for my boyfriends dad and his brother. We finally got to give them to them yesterday.
