This Shadowbox was ordered before Christmas but I couldn’t get it fit in before the holiday hit. She was gracious enough to let me build it after the dust settled. The request was to build her a Shadowbox to gift to her Dad. Her plans are to put old antique tools in it and asked if I could make it a “clean rustic-if that even is a thing” lol. Well, if it wasn’t a thing, it is now. The walls and door are made from old rough cut walnut and the backing is made from old Box Elder barnwood. The battery powered LED light strip was ordered from Amazon and can be set to almost any solid color or can be set to shuffle through all of the colors. It also has the ability to fluctuate and react to music or any other sound in the room. The single pane glass was custom cut and sourced from MVP Auto glass near the square across the street from the Clinton Chamber of Commerce. The folks at MVP are always very kind, fast, accommodating, and fair with their pricing. I can’t recommend them enough. I enjoyed this build and I appreciate the client for trusting me to bring her vision to life!

So, funny story time. This will most likely be my last post because I will probably meet my demise when Dani sees this. As most of you know, my wife is currently carrying a child as a surrogate for a lovely couple from far far away. With pregnancy, as a lot of you also probably know, comes with certain- let’s just say “airy moments”. We had just got done going on a lunch date together where she had the most elderly old lady lunch you can think of- open face hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. As we were walking to the car, she uncontrollably let out a belch that you could just tell had a Mission Control countdown going on prior. We both just kinda looked at each other grinning knowing that she’s not really the type of person to belch loudly and especially in public. I might have said “Decent rip dude” to where she responded with- “That tasted like brown gravy.” We both busted up laughing. It was a hilarious moment (one of those you really had to be there kind of moments). I wanted to lock that memory in FOREVER so, since Christmas is her favorite holiday and this happened right before Christmas, I made her a Christmas ornament to relive that bright moment we shared together ❤️

Another Christmas order from a repeat client. These two boards were intended to be used as metering boards to cut 1/4” “fish steaks” from large slabs of fish fillets. I had never heard of this but the idea sounds pretty ingenious. These boards were crafted using good ole tried and true American Hard Maple.

This was fun project! If you zoom in on the engraving you will see why 🤪. I love when my clients have fun with their requests. Family banter has to be best kind, am I right?! Anyways, the wood selection here was: Walnut, European Beech, Purple Heart, and Cherry.

Another sentimental gift from another one of my repeat clients to their loved one. They ordered a 2nd board as well that I will post tomorrow. The recipient’s father had passed away recently and used to always sign their birthday cards a specific way that had an ‘inside joke’ kind of meaning. My client asked if I could try to add it on the board and it turned out perfect! They were so surprised and emotional (in a good way) after seeing it. These are the most rewarding builds that I do. The ones that capture and display a personal memory and feeling from their life bringing pure joy. ❤️

My client had this board made as a gift for their father who had spent his career in the aviation field. The engraving was a depiction of one of the actual planes he spent a lot of time working on and restoring. I love the personal touch requested by the client! Wood selection: African Padauk, Walnut, and Cherry.

I’m very blessed to have friends and family that are so supportive of what I do. This board was ordered by a close friend of mine who was shopping for a gift to give to their loved ones. The wood selection was Walnut, Cherry, and Purple Heart.

I made this for my father-in-law as a gift. He had mentioned a while back that he would like me to make him a back scratcher at some point. So, I put a funny face on it, let him know I had his back, and made it longer than normal since he’s a tall fellow 🤪. Crafted using oak because oak is well known for being very strong, flexible, and lasts a lifetime- functionally symbolizing how much I really do have his back with the face also symbolizing his humorous personality. The hand braided lanyard was meant to symbolize the bond he shares with our family and to also keep the scratcher from flying across the room when the itches get out of hand further symbolizing that no matter what happens in our lives, we will always reel each other in when things get crazy.

I never knew a simple back scratcher could have so much meaning- but it really does ❤️

Happy New Years Day!

I made this one for a family member that recently got married. I thought I would try something different with it as well and put some 45 degree cuts in the corners. All in all I loved how it turned out! The wood selection was:

Walnut, European Beech, and African Padauk
