My 100-year old crab apple tree has never been so proud. Its little fruits tied everything together along with that anise hyssop, coreopsis, and didiscus -- to name a few of the 100% Vermont Grown local treasurers that graced this event. For larger events, ideally we land on a rough idea of your vision in the Winter so I can plan to plant things specifically with your event in mind.

October is the last breath of the season. The great sigh of release when we let the frost engulf what we’ve worked so hard to create. It’s both abundance and scarcity. Sun hats and knit caps. Gleaning harvests and planting next year’s bulbs. Appreciating the living and the dead.

One of the reasons I’m a great wedding florist: I thrive on a deadline. Finishing this flowers-of-the-month series had no discernible deadline so I left it to rot. Going to finish it this week before the end of July! I forced a deadline.

We chose September for our own wedding so I’m pretty biased. To me, September is all about abundance, crescendo, peak harvest. The switch from Summer to Fall. The reprise of the chorus before curtain call.

July flowers have that perfect bitty mix. Many annual flowers come into their first flush. When folks ask for “wildflowers” they often mean mixing annuals in that casually deliberate way that July does on its own.

There are fewer big bodacious focal flowers. My favorite trick is actually to dry store peonies for July weddings. When harvested at the right stage, I can easily keep peonies in my cooler for a month.

June is a unique flower month within our short growing season in Vermont. Many blooms are only available in passing; maybe a week or two if you’re lucky. We can squeeze in some of the best late Spring perennials and shrubs with early Summer annuals — a combo that is certain to be magic✨
