Shelf styling is one of those details that can completely transform a space — when it’s done intentionally.

The goal? Collected and elevated… not cluttered.

Here are a few designer tips for styling shelves beautifully:

✨ Start with larger pieces first. Art, bowls, books, or larger objects help anchor the shelf and create structure.
✨ Layer items instead of lining everything up. Lean artwork behind objects or stack books underneath decor to add depth and dimension.
✨ Mix materials and textures. Combine wood, ceramic, glass, metal, and natural elements to make the styling feel warm and balanced.
✨ Leave breathing room. One of the biggest mistakes is overcrowding every shelf. Empty space is what gives styling that elevated, curated look.
✨ Use books strategically. Books add height, texture, and personality — especially when stacked horizontally and paired with smaller decor pieces.
✨ Add something organic. A small plant, branches, or natural texture instantly softens shelves and makes them feel more lived-in.
✨ Stick to a cohesive color palette. This keeps shelves feeling calm and intentional rather than visually busy.
✨ Use the rule of thirds. Aim for 3 groups of items per shelf to avoid the shelf from feeling too cluttered.

The secret to great shelf styling is balance — not perfection.

What actually makes a room feel cozy?

It’s not just soft blankets or candles - coziness comes from layering the right design elements so a space feels warm, grounded, and lived-in (without feeling cluttered).

Here are a few intentional ways to create that feeling in your home:

✅ Start with LIGHTING. Overhead lighting alone can make a room feel harsh. Add table lamps, floor lamps, and wall sconces so the light is warm, layered, and comes from multiple sources.

✅ Next is TEXTURE. A cozy room always has contrast - think linen with wool, wood with stone, or boucle with smooth finishes. Texture is what makes a space feel rich and inviting.

✅ Pay attention to SCALE and SEATING arrangement. Pull furniture in slightly instead of pushing everything against the walls. It creates intimacy and makes conversation feel natural.

✅ Don’t underestimate SOFT GOODS like pillows, throws, and rugs. These should feel intentional, not random - stick to a cohesive color palette so it feels curated, not busy.

✅ Finally, bring in PERSONAL WARMTH. Books, art, meaningful objects, and subtle styling details make a space feel like it belongs to someone - not just staged for a photo.

Cozy isn’t a style - it’s a feeling created through thoughtful layers.

Save this for your next home refresh! 🤍

I just got back from and boy am I feeling inspired! Here are just a few things I noticed this year and can’t wait to bring back to clients

1️⃣ A “new traditional” aesthetic
2️⃣ Stand-along kitchen items
3️⃣ The most stunning convertable ping pong serving table
4️⃣ Lots of dimension and rounded corners

And that just barely scratches the surface of all the beautiful concepts and trends I saw.

What should you actually spend your hard-earned money during a home spruce? Here are the items I tell my clients to splurge on vs save on when updating their home:

SPLURGE:
💵 Sofa
💵 Statement LIghting
💵 Large Area Rug
💵 Sleep Essentials

SAVE:
💰 Trendy Accessories
💰 Small Accent Pieces
💰 Styling Details

Spend your money where you use it daily, comfort matters, and quality is noticeable. Save where trends change quickly, items are easy to replace, and styling creates the impact.

What do you think is worth investing in during a home spruce or renovation? Let me know in the comments!
